This adds another layer when considering the 1956 movie adaptation actually cast Max Baer for the role.

On the Google doc, I’ve linked to two podcasts about the movie: my visit to @ifwtpod.bsky.social as well as the Boxing Movie Podcast @mrstevehunt.bsky.social episode on the movie.

THE FIGHTER (1952) is based on Jack London's 1911 short story "The Mexican.

It weaves together two of London's passions: boxing and revolution. The protagonist volunteers for the Revolution, then secretly goes out to prize-fight -- buying rifles with his winnings.

A thread 🧡

Easily the second-best boxing movie named THE FIGHTER out there.

This is Jack London, not Micky Ward.

The fourth pick from @williamdettloff.bsky.social for his Desert Island Fights is one that ends with a truly iconic knockout. George Foreman reclaiming the world heavyweight title by beating Michael Moorer almost exactly 20 after he lost the title to Ali. #boxing

Mario Barrios trainer Joe Goossen: β€˜I don’t have any enemies in this game’ Ryan Garcia has taken aim at his former trainer, Joe Goossen, for working with upcoming opponent Mario Barrios, but Goossen has nothing bad to say about Garcia – or anyone else, for that matter.

Ahead of Saturday's #BarriosGarcia fight, I had the great pleasure of speaking w/ Barrios' trainer Joe Goossen β€” about Ryan Garcia's stated animosity toward him, his extra-long camp with Barrios, whether he still gets butterflies on fight night, and more: www.boxingscene.com/articles/mar...

A beautiful dark-haired woman lies across a sofa or bed (not sure which), an enigmatic expression on her face. Her hands appear to have sharp claws and fur, which is tearing the fabric she lies on.
