As I always tell my students: Annotate! Remember! Underline! Remind yourself! Create a trail of lead/ink on the page! Talk to the text! Interact! This is what is to be alive!

Enough about books in dialogue with other books, with traditions, with ideas. I want them sitting across the room furiously pretending to ignore each other. Books on non-speaking terms! Books that glare and point! Books storming out of the room crying!

It is called "mise en slopîme" when nostalgia slop recalls something people don't know or remember, becoming nostalgia for slop without referent, isn't it? A "sloaping signifier" if you like

I agree this is a critical symptom of the larger culture/social landscape. The exploitation of the internet to destroy our ability to disagree is a disaster. The obverse of this is the distortion of what counts as dialogue.
