Sadly, all the Learn Blender people were right. You couldn't pay me to go back to Maya or 3Ds Max. And I couldn't pay me either, because their license costs are insane

I really can't stress how important it is for progressive and leftists to contend for school, library, water, etc etc boards. Hyper local involvement in our communities where we can actually influence lives.

Hi everyone. This is incredibly hard for me to write, but I’m reaching out because my family is in a moment of crisis that I can’t overcome on my own.
I am an Afro-Indigenous woman, a full-time worker, and the sole provider for my two daughters β€” my 10-year-old and my 1-year-old β€” as well as the primary caregiver for my own mother. Every day, I do everything in my power to keep us safe, fed, and moving forward.
We’ve been living in a hotel after losing our home when part of our household income disappeared. Since then, I’ve been trying to keep some sense of stability for my girls while searching tirelessly for a place we can call home again.
But recently, things took a devastating turn:
our car was towed with all of our belongings inside.

Since then, I’ve been trying to keep some sense of stability for my girls while searching tirelessly for a place we can call home again. But recently, things took a devastating turn: our car was towed with all of our belongings inside.

Our car isn’t just a vehicle β€” it’s how I get to work, how I take my daughters where they need to be, how I care for my mom, and right now, it’s where we keep almost everything we own. The towing and storage fees have been piling up every day. Now I’m faced with impossible choices: food or transportation, diapers or gas, work or getting the car released.
I’m trying so hard to stay strong for my daughters. My 10-year-old feels everything, and my baby depends on me for everything. They deserve stability. They deserve safety. They deserve a chance.
We are trying to raise enough to get our car out β€” to keep me employed, protect our belongings, and give my girls the stability they desperately need while we work toward finding a home again.

Posting for a friend - helping Shay is one tangible thing you could do today to make the world better. She has been working so hard and a setback like this is devastating for her, and the sort of thing that gets families torn apart.

I mean I get WHY. The models don’t line up, it’s apples and oranges! It’s just frustrating that systems NEVER seem to evolve to support the arts in any meaningful way even though they remain the coals fueling many of the biggest industries and economies in the world.

but the people making and writing it are pretty unilaterally expected to give it up for free! Or sell it in print format where we get a 1% royalty (maybe, after you pay off that advance!) check for $4.50 twice a year. Artists have MINIMAL access to the internet financial ecosystem.

19.11.2025 00:49 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But sometimes I’ll see how many paid subscribers a channel that just loudly retells you what happened in a marvel movie has and it’s like, comical how those numbers don’t exist for artists. The internet thrives on these subscriber and micro transactions that feed really directly off of art-

*im honestly mostly talking about bland explainer/recap and reaction type videos. I don’t really love these, they fill a similar ecological niche to me as unboxing videos where I do not get it but i respect that it’s just nice popcorn entertainment for a lot of people!

19.11.2025 00:45 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It kinda sucks how infinitely more monetizable making videos where you just rehash a movie or a video game* is than say, making anything. Not in the sense than I think people making videos or social/art critiques don’t deserve money or credit (there DO) but it sucks that no one wants to pay artists!

Maybe it’s good that people’s beginner or very middle school art isn’t being found and critiqued by people on the internet in bad faith! But it does make it feel less democratized and flat. Less of a community, and more of a showcase.

18.11.2025 16:25 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

What we see on the internet has become dominated by algorithms or by a public vote of approval in the form of likes/shares. The idea of like scrolling and stumbling upon very unpolished art is just not part of the average day to day use of the internet. It’s not really good or bad, just a change

Sometimes I hear people say how much better people have have gotten with subsequent generations of digital artists and I think it’s true that access to tools and resources probably have helped some people, but also the internet just doesn’t allow you to see amateur art anymore

It does feel like we're all going insane. We *know* he's implicated in Epstein's abuse. He's lashing out, in a misogynistic way, when questioned about it. We know. Why isn't every news stations 24hour coverage of the president being a child abuser? It should be wall-to-wall

Archaeologist here. For 99.5% of human history (ca 300-400,000 years), we were peaceful (no war). There was conflict and smaller scale violence, but countless studies on the 119 known modern hunter gatherer groups show cooperation, negotiation, and peace instead of conflict. Please read books.
