I have shared this story, this thread, before - but I think given the state of the world, it's worth telling once again. Maybe it can help, especially if like me, you make art, and you wonder what the use of all of it is right now.

It's wild to me that in "Jekyll & Hyde" Emma is considered the "good girl" and Lucy the "bad girl." Literally Emma talks back to authority and flouts convention and breaks rules every time she speaks; Lucy is just trying to do her job and not die, but she happens to be a sex worker so she's "bad."

But thank goodness he explained it to me, or however would I have known what was happening? /s

As a femme presenting person, I've heard my share of strange pickup lines, catcalls, etc. But tonight was the first time I got "HEY! A man is flirting with you!" Um...do you think that means I owe you attention? Cause I don't. No one does.

I use nail art to ground myself. The process of decorating my nails is meditative and forces me to slow down. Later, I can look at them when I'm hurting and see something beautiful that I made.

I personally find it more palatable when I mentally pronounce "female" like "tamale."

I still have a shelf of the magic school books, and I don't read them but also don't want to put them out into the world. Should we make art from the pages? IDK

I think the consensus baseline is "don't give the POS more money." But I still haven't figured out what to do with previously purchased books that I no longer enjoy. I think you're still okay to enjoy them privately without giving more money or encouraging new readers, but I can't enjoy them.

Being an actor/singer is so wild. Because on the one hand, we're told "have a thick skin" and constantly rejected. but on the other hand we're supposed to be vulnerable and expressive, and if we're at all closed off behind a thick skin, it means we're not good at the job. It's wild.
