I’ve struggled with my weight my entire adult life. At the end of the day it is my responsibility. The outcome is due to my effort or lack thereof. Could I use a different word other than fat? Yes I guess, but a rose is a rose by any other name.

But don’t gaslight people about their own bodies. Even if it comes from a good place. Just be supportive and be constructive.

Encourage them, don’t baby them,. And for gawds sake don’t tell them that they don’t like themselves because you don’t know how they feel about themselves. I call myself fat because I am fat. I’m not happy with my current state of being. I’m working on changing it.

When someone expresses themselves about their weight and their need to change themselves in a constructive manner, don’t dissuade them. I know you think you’re being nice. But if someone is like, “Yo, I need to lose some weight because it’s going to affect my health”.

People are all like, “You need to be more kind to yourself”. Well, that’s the problem: I’ve been too kind, too lenient with myself and let myself eat like garbage and now I am heavier than I’ve ever been.

I find it very kind, but also mildly condescending when someone wants to argue with me about my descriptions of my current body. I’m a middle-aged man that I would absolutely describe as fat. Maybe that’s a negative word but honestly, it’s just a descriptor to me.

Most of these mf-ers don’t even know what half of the buttons, dials, and switches on a mixer do, much less understand the musical spectrum and history of this art form.
