There’s a substantial market for translations of CJK popular fiction which has ALREADY read the “available right now” version of the work. Or they could have chosen to do so. These people are buying the official releases anyway. Why? THAT’S the question.

Is MTPE a happy medium? Certainly not for the translators, over 90% of whom are adverse to the practice (source: www.linkedin.com/posts/caroli...). Pretty sure the percentage is even higher in creative fields.

I am (demonstrably) willing to pay above market rates for a novel if I think it will net me a human, considered, high-quality translation of this kind of work. If it’s going to be AI slop I would simply not purchase it at any price.
