If youโ€™ve ever eaten a samosa, you must try samosa chaat. This is the version at Coffee Street in Dartmouth - delicious!

To their great credit, @hfxgov.bsky.social @hfxtransit.bsky.social offered free transit to public school students last year. The pilot was successful and the program will continue. Ottawa should consider!

ICYMI: Last week, I made a video about the potential for bike lanes on Morris Street, the recent political carnival around it, and did some measuring to see if there's actually even a need to drop a traffic lane at all.

Just announced on LinkedIn: the new gig thatโ€™s bringing me to Dartmouth regularly - and getting me on my bike and the ferry - is as interim Executive Director at Alice House. Iโ€™ve really enjoyed my first three days back in an office.

That is super hard. Not sure if you follow @twisiamanda.bsky.social but she has written about grief for her mom. You might find some solace in non aloneness?

Day 2 of my dream commute - bike/ ferry to downtown Dartmouth (eventually I might attempt the bridge) and I met an older cyclist on her way to Toronto. She got to Halifax with a combo of train and bike. Multi-modal for a taste of adventure.

I would never talk down Dartmouth! But I love living in Halifax and a regular ferry commute to Dartmouth just improves it. Not to mention that I just picked up onions and garlic - essentials, clearly- at Oโ€™Bees market which added only 5 minutes to my commute.

I feel this. I grew ground cherry plants from seed - enough to gift some - and am watching for some to ripen. And this year, there are more raspberries and fewer Japanese beetles.

Why the Texas floods were so severe Flooding rains in and around Kerr County had brought a widespread 10 to 15 total inches by Friday morning. Four months of rainfall came down in four hours.

Tragedy in Texas hill country, where 4 monthsโ€™ worth of rain in just four hours caused Guadalupe River levels to spike 30 feet in just an hour and a half - in the middle of the night.

Two dozen are dead in the resulting floods and another 20 young campers still missing.

Cleveland Beach is closer than Hubbards and just off the bike trail. No lifeguard. When I want a swim but not a beach afternoon, I donโ€™t mind swimming in the Northwest Arm - the bottom of South St has ok access.

The photo, in black-and-white, shows John Herbert seated at a desk, working on a typewriter. John Herbert has long, wavy hair and is wearing a patterned garment with intricate designs, possibly a robe or tunic, which gives an artistic and unconventional vibe. His hands are on the typewriter, suggesting he is in the middle of writing, aligning with his identity as a Canadian playwright and theatre director. The desk is cluttered with various items, including a rolled-up piece of paper, a fan, a lamp, and other office supplies like bottles and containers, indicating a busy and creative workspace. A shelf above holds more papers and objects, adding to the sense of an active, working environment. The overall atmosphere reflects John Herbert's dedication to his craft, capturing a moment of focused creativity.

John Herbert was convicted of indecency after he was robbed in Toronto while dressed as a woman.
His time in prison inspired him to write a play about his experience. It became the most-widely produced play in the history of Canadian theatre.
This is his story.

Also COVID coincided with smart phones, social media fractured / driven by algorithms, demise of local journalism. The information ecosystem was weak before and then we were strained by COVID.
