Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?"

Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

If New York passes a mask ban in its budget bill, that would very much break with the fact that Democrats in North Carolina were against a mask ban, as it leads to harassment of those wearing them.

Stopping the Trump administration’s use of funding cuts to coerce speech restrictions at universities - Protect Democracy Protect Democracy is challenging the Trump administration’s unlawful termination of $400 million in federal funding.

I’ve been complaining about universities failing to fight back on these lawless Title VI funding cut offs, but had missed this suit by @aaup (of which I am a member) and the American Federation of Teachers. Very heartening protectdemocracy.org/work/stoppin...

It really is bizarre that they think tens of thousands of people paid to protest but they can't produce a single person who received money. Meanwhile, they have no concerns with Elon Musk paying voters.

An extract of a newsletter from Kelly Evans at CNBC.

Listen to what Bessent is saying.

"The president is reordering trade," he told Tucker Carlson. "We are shedding excess labor in the federal government and bringing down federal borrowings. And then on the other side that will give us the labor that we need for the new manufacturing" here in the U.S., he said.
Just look at the non-reaction to Israel and Vietnam's efforts to bring their tariffs down in order to avoid new tariffs last week. I don't think this White House is looking for opportunities to back down. I think they view this as a one-time shot to remake the entire U.S. economic order, with high tariffs being a necessary catalyst for that.
"I believe that this is going to work," Bessent said. "What I do know is that the old system wasn't working. And if you look at a system that's not working, you've got to be brave to change it." Does that sound like language from an administration looking for an exit route? Especially from Bessent, who has the most Wall Street experience of the bunch.

Trump sold a bunch of people into slavery in El Salvadorβ€”under false pretenses if that matters to youβ€”and when a federal judge told him to reverse that, Trump unlawfully refused, and now the Supreme Court needs to give it a think; apparently they think selling kidnap victims into slavery has merit.

It’s hideous to watch horrors that human ingenuity had put us past worrying about suddenly rear up to threaten us and our children again because of profound human stupidity.

There's something about seeing it visually over time that chills the blood. It's hard to process that when we made the jump from 2022 to 2023, it still wasn't enough to convince people this was serious. Before Trump was re-inaugurated gender-affirming care was banned in more than 50% of the country.

I think it’s really good that people are protesting in their own states and cities because it shows that these protests are community driven. Americans can fix this authoritarian slide. They can fix it, but running for office in their own cities and towns. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

What we're seeing at #handsoff protests nationwide today and what we saw at the ballot box on Tuesday are not unrelated. The public is furious. It will not be silenced. And those who side with Trump and Muskβ€”or refuse to fight backβ€”will be swept out of office.
