I'm very happy to have started my postdoctoral position at @mpifg.bsky.social, after submitting my PhD at @eui-eu.bsky.social! I'll be continuing to research the political economy of climate change, with a focus on the building sector. Feel free to reach out if you are in Cologne!

Radical-right parties are often linked to the “left-behind”. But supporting them when stigma is strong is costly. So who is willing to pay that cost early on, before it’s normalized?

In my new WP, I argue that breaking political norms is socially stratified. 🧵👇

It’s striking how much these patterns are similar across many European counties (both the center left one and the radical right one).

And yet there’s much work to be done in shifting the discourse from competing narratives that have little empirical backing.

“.. democracy often erodes slowly at first .. But with each concession, autocrats become bolder.. and reversal becomes harder. Responses that, early on, can feel pragmatic—waiting it out, remaining silent, cutting a deal—only embolden ..”

If you’re a political scientist please consider joining @epssnet.bsky.social as a member to help support this new (not for profit!) organization and the next European Political Science Conference in 2026 in Belfast 👇

If that’s not in the budget: spreading the word is just as important 😊

🚨 working paper (w. @morganlcj.bsky.social @markuswagner.bsky.social): Protesters are not judged equally - even if tactics of groups are similar.

We ran an experiment in 🇩🇪 testing how people react to farmers vs. climate activists blocking roads.

What we find is disturbing:

The distance between a legal resident who's not a citizen being deported without due process and a citizen being deported without due process is a hell of a lot shorter than many folks seem to believe, and when it does happen to a citizen, just remember it started here and who was quiet in response.

The universities should form a common front to articulate the corrupt and authoritarian threat, and they should do it while they still can…. If you’re going to get hammered either way, at least stand for you values…you might be the spark that saves the country. But solidarity in numbers is key…
