A newspaper page showing my review of The Transcendent Tide by Doug Johnstone, headlined "Moving final part of sci-fi trilogy explored what it means to be human" which is what the whole trilogy does absolutely beautifully while still giving you a set of action-packed plots. Never seen a giant telepathic outer space squid as a main character? Read this trilogy...

I had some thoughts about The Transcendent Tide by @dougjohnstone.bsky.social (@orendabooks.bsky.social) for Scotland in Sunday newspaper - suffice to say I think it's excellent and you should read trilogy immediately! When reading TTT you may need a hanky, and beware polar bears... 🐙🌊🐻‍❄️

I burned through THE TRANSCENDENT TIDE by Doug Johnstone today. It is the final book in his wonderful sci-fi Encedalons Trilogy. Even though it is about aliens seeking a safe haven on Earth, it is actually a powerful commentary about humanity. 1/2

I was always under the impression that permission to use a literary quote at the start of your novel was usually granted for free (as opposed to lyrics). But I just had a very late (far too late) reply to a request, asking for a substantial amount for a single line. Fuck em.
