I was raised Catholic. Mom's abusive husband was cheating on her and the priest asked what she did to make him do that. We stopped going to church after that. I stopped calling myself a Catholic altogether after the abuse scandal broke a few years later.

Really appreciate that you made this point. Back in the Bush years I was a young single mom and I was crushed by gas prices over $4 a gallon. There were no other options for me then. It's important people know we aren't mocking those drivers.
