It rained every single day. Draco had gone to great lengths to coordinate their busy schedules for this vacation, and the sun never came out. Dinner on the rooftop was moved into the cramped dining room, sunset strolls on the beach turned into watching a bad scifi movie in a packed auditorium that

Later, with cooling charms applied and a breeze circulating the room, Draco cradled Hermione, absently rubbing her stomach. He made a mental note, for the sake of his wife, their daughter, and his own sanity, to have air con installed before next summer.

He placed a gentle kiss to the center of her forehead, softening the furrow of her brows as his lips lingered a few extra seconds. Draco promised to join her soon, leaving her to slumber.

Draco helped her back to their room, bringing her to settle on the bed, a light sheet draped over her frame. As he moved to leave, Hermione stopped him with a hand on his arm.

“Will you stay with me?”

“I could get you a damp cloth for your neck?”

“Draco, I just want to lie down,” she grunted as the hot summer air wafted down the hall.

Hermione sighed as she accepted his support to stand. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t snap at you like that. I’m not upset, but I am terribly uncomfortable, and this is the only room in the house that isn’t stiflingly hot.”

“Want me to run you a cool bath again?”

“Maybe…”

“You really should be in bed. Come on, let me help you up.”

“Don’t touch me,” she barked.

Draco flinched, but continued to hold his arm out for her.

Lately, the doctor’s recommendation to rest had made her weary, and she took any opportunity to push the boundaries of leisure whenever he left, but her brittle stamina left her weak.

“Darling? Are you alright?”

In place of words, Hermione groaned.

With her arm thrown across her face as though in distress, she wore exhaustion on her body. The pregnancy had been fine, until it wasn’t.

Draco checked the kitchen, both of their offices, and the living room before he made his way through the other bedrooms, meticulously checking them one-by-one until he finally found her, reclining on a couch in a disused extra room on the third floor.
