I have question from a colleague about the history of the concept of human capital. Any advice? Literature recommendations? @shoet.bsky.social @undercoverhist.bsky.social @cleocz.bsky.social @vhalsmayer.bsky.social

Jonny Bunning (@bunnjey.bsky.social) wrote his dissertation on the history of human capital. It doesn't seem to be available online though.

.@aurelien-goutsmedt.com and I are trying to document the transformation of labour economics. Timing, scope and nature of the transition towards the 'analytical' labour economics are key focus.
Some very familiar patterns are confirmed, some surprising one emerge too (more to come!) ๐๐๐

A looseleaf sheet of paper with the following writing:
โReminders.
1. You could spend forever working on this book and it would still not be perfect.
2. You will not please everyone and those people who arenโt pleased will probably never be pleased no matter what you do with this manuscript.
3. There are people who will read this work with interest. Write for those people.
4. You invested a lot of time in this work and it deserves to be read; the story deserves to be told.
5. You can finish a first draft of this manuscript.
6. The reviewers will ask for changes so you will have to revisit it anyway. So it is okay if it is not written as tightly as you would like.โ
I just found this list of affirmations I wrote while trying to finish my book manuscript. I thought Iโd post it for anyone working on any writing that they feel nervous about putting into the world. You can (and should) do it! #amwriting

Digging into the JEEA special issue below, I was wondering if anyone knows of articles, reports, or resources on the history of economic journal ranking?
When and how academic/public institutions began ranking journals?

Historians colleagues who (still) have essay-writing based courses, who supervise master and PhD students, how do you discuss the use of generative AI for research and writing with them (sources, do/don't, etc)?
Thanks!

If you feel like it, will you show me how you annotate texts you read for research? I thought our first-year undergrads might be interested to see the variety.

A year or so ago when I was overwhelmed I made a list of tasks with 3 categories: stuff I enjoy/meh but non-negotiable stuff/non essential chores
(thankfully the first category was the longest!)
then I tried to squeeze out of the non essentials and started counting my hours on the meh stuff.

Pretty cool find in a bookstore in Bogota. 99% sure this was Currie's copy as I can't think of any other "Lauch" whose books would end up here.
