yep, same as my great-grand mother! She made use of the tub my grandparents had but in her own house there was no tub. Used a basin all of her life. She was absolutely bonkers when it came to personal hygiene. My other great-grandparents used a zinc tub filled manually with water still in the 80s.

they also still had Roman baths functioning until well into the middle ages. so yeah, many ways of keeping themselves clean, changing undergarments was definitely still a daily necessity, the layered up clothes were changed less frequently because they required less often washing.

there are literal volumes written about different conditions of hygiene in Europe alone, so yeah, complex af, but one thing is certain - people did wash themselves

of course they cleaned themselves... baths could be taken in many ways too, not everyone had a tube, but people made use of streams etc. And keeping basic hygiene didn't involve a bath tube but a basin, which was still a common utility even in the 20th century.

they. bathed. people. bathed. as a fucking cultural historian I am herby announcing that people have bathed. Of course that baths were not taken as often as we do today, but people had proper routine when it comes to hygene
