Next Sat 19 July is the 50th consecutive monthly critical mass ride in Worcester.
Spread the word. Everyoneβs welcome on any bike / trike / wheelchair / scooter / skateboard / roller skate / other.
No set route (follow the leader) and we ride at the speed of the slowest rider.

Long journeys take longer in an EV compared with ICE. This is the way.

Youβre right, Iβm wrong π.
But Iβd propose a correction, which is a perception of a lack of charging infrastructure, rather than that being a reality (based on current charging and current EV numbers).
Iβve had one for 5 years, never had a problem (just checked with partner).

Fuel Price Escalator - Wikipedia
Has there been any research on barriers to take up?
Iβd hypothesise a bigger barrier is the fact itβs something different (differentism?) as in fear of change. Next is cost. So bringing back the fuel price escalator helps move the dial.

We should acknowledge private car ownership as a problem, and its cost to society, and set policy to change it.
Average in Worcester (100,000 pop) is 20% of households with no car. City centre this is as high as 75%.
The average UK car does nowt for 95% of the time.
Holistically this is daft.

Kerb side, but take your point.
Agree with LAs shouldnβt be out of pocket (including investment, management, operating cost, maintenance and admin).
Iβve had an EV for 5 years, couldnβt charge at home for the first 12 months.
It was not a problem.
13.07.2025 07:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Iβm not aware of any plans for the latter.
Eg. every household pays Β£1000 per car registered at an address, money to LA.
Households with no car get a Β£1000 rebate.

I was in London village this week. Saw lots of charging coming from lampposts (which is whatβs happening in the picture). If this is established, why not start with that?
Or better, why not work harder at incentivising a reduction in car ownership / use?

Anyway, a suggestion for your show would be to do an hour on road danger and risk, and how this could be reduced, and compared to health risks of inactivity.

Weβre about enabling and encouraging more people to travel by bike, but this involves a fair bit of work looking at road danger and risk.
We collect data, and review LA police data through FOIs.
We work hard to be the most informed people in the room.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social huge fan of your show and your work.
However your section on last Wednesdayβs show about e-bikes was a bit odd, and seemed to fall below your normal standard of being informed, and evidence based.

A woman rides a bicycle with a young child sitting on both the front and rear rack along a protected bike lane in Delft.
When this person woke up this morning, they didnβt say to themselves:
βIβm going to make my cityβs streets safer, air cleaner, traffic lighter, neighborhood quieter, and medical and maintenance bills cheaper.β
Yet they do all of that anyway. Why? The right choice is designed to be the easy choice.

I made six friends (who all live within 2 blocks of me) tonight as a direct result of the Lincoln Ave Open Street and that's so priceless.
The societal good is so apparent and yet that's not something we care to measure when we talk about who our streets should serve.

Non-standard Cycles | Wheels4Me
Wheels4Me London is a ground-breaking scheme offering free bike loans for Londoners with specific needs or disabilities.
The biggest barrier to enabling Disabled people to cycle?
Cost. Non-standard cycles are eye-wateringly expensive.
Let's change that.
Our Wheels4Me.co.uk loan scheme gives Disabled Londoners the chance to loan a non-standard cycle, totally free. Not a discount or a grant. FREE.
Real freedom.
