This Autism Acceptance Month, let’s remember that Minneapolis is for EVERYONE, and celebrate the unique perspectives, skills, and experiences that make the people of Minneapolis so great!

-Use the recommendations from the Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities as a guide to expanding the accessibility and inclusivity of our city.
-And so much more!

-Support MPS in their work to make classrooms inclusive and accessible, as well as support transition programs for neurodivergent students leaving high school.

We owe it to our friends, family, and neighbors with autism to make our city more accommodating. This means we need to:

-Improve emergency responder training to better equip staff in supporting neurodivergent people in crisis.

Whether it’s making ordinances at City Hall, creating new menu items at a local coffee shop, designing future bus routes, or being a role model to their siblings, people with autism are a part of our community, and contribute to it every day.

In light of recent comments from the Federal Secretary of Health & Human Services, I think it’s important to remind people of what neurodiversity brings to our world. People across the autism spectrum are always transforming our city.

Who is Ethrophic Burnett? Ethrophic "E" Burnett has lived in the Hawthorne neighborhood since 2013. Through her work at the Northside Achievement Zone, Urban Homeworks, the Office of Neighborhood Safety, as a Policy Aide, and by just being an involved neighbor, E has been advocating for the Northside for over a decade! Who is Ethrophic Burnett? E is a mother of six, and a proud parent of North High students and graduates! With her work at Northside Achievement Zone, she has learned firsthand from her neighbors about what is needed to close the achievement gap and help young people stay in school and learn all that they can! In her time working for the City of Minneapolis, E has been able to build long-term relationships with community members, and has played a vital role in bringing the voices and concerns of often ignored community members to City Hall.
