Cats, politics, long walks in the country. Education, social policy. Woke before it was a problem and currently mystified by government’s lack of courage on EU and other policies including foreign policy.

The Double-Headed Eagle: Russia, America and the Authoritarian Big Tech Alliance It’s all in plain sight: Bannon and Dugin preach a pro-Russian “Christian” civilisation, Musk and Medvedev call for the EU’s undoing, while Vance and Thiel’s network shields Kremlin-aligned Big Tech

A current shortage of ethnically matched donors means Black Londoners affected by sickle cell disease are having to go without blood transfusions.

Could you donate blood this month?

Feels like the Police Federation has always been an obstacle to police accountability. Yes they need to ensure fair process but always feel they have more influence than other unions.

So 9.9% false positive for black women? That is profoundly unsafe if I have read that correctly. How well is this challenged later in the process? Is this used evidentially in court?

Like media focus on summary detention and deportation of US citizens when actually it is wrong for non citizens too. There seems to have a been a trend for use of extra-judicial killings not only by US but by others too, particularly in ME. It is almost as if governments feel they are above the law.

U.S. Military’s Boat Strikes Planning Takes On New Significance

The USG has a new explanation on why they (now admittedly) intentionally killed 2 shipwrecked men. It does not pass the laws-of-war smell test

Worse for Hegseth, NYT: "Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved contingency plans for what to do if an initial strike left survivors."

This desire for a tightly controlled environment with no creativity, built on memorising for exams in 4 years time is completely excluding for so many.

Transition to uni and work is made much harder when students aren’t given space to develop critical thinking and independent learning in school.

Nigel Farage: Stop playing wargames with Putin
YouTube video by Brexit Party MEPs Nigel Farage: Stop playing wargames with Putin

This is the video Nigel Farage doesn't want you to see. In fact, I bet he'd pay millions to have this video erased from the Internet's memory, if only such a possibility existed.

So much wrong with this policy. Families will go into extreme poverty to try and avoid longer pathway. So unfair if previous benefits, lawfully claimed are counted to extend settlement.

This puts those families and children at a major economic and social disadvantage. Why? To stop some coming in future? To force them to leave? No evidence either will happen. They will still come and they will still settle, but after years of scrimping compared to other families.

Contact hours haven’t really reduced substantially. Attendance is poor. Students are massively working, repeat freezing of maintenance loan contributes to this. For me as well as social media/AI, the memorisation/reduction in creative/critical thinking in secondary curriculum is a big contributor.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Horrific for parents and kids. More and more kids excluded or disengaged as the whole system is about grades and achievement and this starting earlier. Who will they be as adults? Mental health, employment, criminal justice, benefits? Lost futures and massive costs for this tunnel visioned education

Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.
