It's day 1 of the #30DayMapChallenge! ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

Since yesterday was also Halloween, I'm sticking with a spooky theme and looking at *points* where ghosts have been spotted in New York City ๐Ÿ‘ป

Why We Should All Be Data Quality Detectives โ€“ Real World Data Science Data serves as the foundation of our work. So why isnโ€™t its quality given the prominence it deserves?

Data wrangling is undervalued, and the consequences can be huge. Rosemary Tate & Roger Halliday call for a culture shift in data science, including โ€œdata amnestyโ€ & editorial reform.

That's kind of the point of this question - there isn't really a precedent so I'm asking a similar audience what they'd expect. And there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus about what it's called.

Question, if you were including something like this ๐Ÿ‘‡in a report or paper, would you label it as e.g. "Table 1" or "Figure 1"?

Or something else?

(assuming whatever software you're using let's you pick either)

R packages for visualising spatial data โ€“ Nicola Rennie Throughout the #30DayChartChallenge I made most of my maps with R. This blog post details the R packages I find myself using most often when visualising spatial data.

Looking for an overview of different #RStats packages for visualising spatial data? ๐Ÿ“Š Here's a previous blog post of mine: nrennie.rbind.io/blog/r-packa...

A โ€œBefore and Afterโ€ comparison of a research structure diagram.
Before: A dense yellow-orange block diagram with boxes and sub-boxes showing sections such as โ€œIntroduction and Motivation,โ€ โ€œThe Concept of Uncertainty,โ€ โ€œUncertainty Representation Approaches,โ€ โ€œRecent Advances in UnViz,โ€ โ€œEvaluation of UnViz Techniques,โ€ and โ€œFuture Research Directions.โ€ Subtopics like โ€œData Sampling Uncertainty,โ€ โ€œDecision Uncertainty,โ€ โ€œMachine Learning,โ€ โ€œBig Data,โ€ and โ€œUser Studiesโ€ are clustered, making the layout busy and visually cluttered.
After: A clean, vertical flow diagram resembling a timeline or hierarchy, numbered 1โ€“5. Each main sectionโ€”like โ€œThe concept of uncertainty,โ€ โ€œUncertainty representation approaches,โ€ โ€œEvaluation of uncertainty visualization techniques,โ€ โ€œRecent advances in uncertainty visualization,โ€ and โ€œFuture research directionsโ€โ€”branches into smaller indented topics with light connecting lines. A gray line runs through the sequence toward โ€œConclusion.โ€ New elements are marked with an exclamation symbol. The redesign replaces the crowded box layout with an elegant, linear structure that clarifies relationships and sequence.
