10 years ago, this video debuted. Death threats followed. In 1861, southern citizens seceded to protect slavery. US Army soldiers destroyed slavery, freed 4m from bondage and saved the USA. Now, the video has 35m views.
Slavery was immoral then. It’s immoral now.

Worth remembering that the Naming Commission was inclined to replace Bragg with Medal of Honor recipient MSGT Ray Benividez, but the community -- and especially Gold Star families -- wanted the name Ft. Liberty.

A very good read about coming to terms with the legacy of ones country and state. From here on, I shall refer to the old slave plantations as "enslaved labor farms" as Ty Seidule does.

I'm a west coaster, born and raised, and even I had a lot of myths to dispel and propaganda to be disabused of. For starters, I'll never use the term 'Union Army' again. It was the US Army, the same then as it is now.
Another great non-fic work was "Robert E. Lee and Me: A Southerner's Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause" by @tyseidule.bsky.social.
A compelling blend of memoir and history about the legacy of the Lost Cause Mythology in the U.S. military and the American South.
