2/ The legitimacy issue has started since the disputed parliamentary elections in October 2024. A significant part of Georgian society and international community does not consider the Georgian Dream government legitimate.

1/ On March 4, Georgian Dream adopted new repressive legislation. Under the amendments, creating or spreading the perception that GD is not a legitimate government will be punishable under the Criminal Code, with a sentence of up to three years in prison.

A criminal case has been launched against Baia Margishvili for tearing up case materials during a trial. She is charged with contempt of court. The hearing concerned road blocking under GD’s repressive law. The Criminal Code article carries up to 2 years in prison.

February 25 is a tragic day marking Georgia’s Russian Soviet occupation, which took place in 1921. Yesterday, a protest march was held to commemorate this day. The Georgian Dream police said that the citizens did not have a permit to hold the rally.

Since the UK sanctioned Georgian propaganda TV channels, Imedi and POSTV, the MIA has summoned the UK ambassador. The meeting was held today. Gareth Ward did not comment afterward. Maka Bochorishvili said that "she could not listen to an argument from him about the sanctions."

A march in support of Ukraine was held in Tbilisi today, on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale aggression in Ukraine.

The UK has sanctioned Georgian Propaganda TV channels Imedi and POSTV under the Russia sanctions regime (24 Feb 2026), citing their role in spreading pro-Kremlin disinformation about Ukraine.

MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor tells @publikage.bsky.social that the EU has failed to respond adequately to violations of citizens’ rights in Georgia. He says suspending visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic passports is “useless.”

He also criticizes some EU ambassadors.

5/ Prosecutors claimed that his investor was Bidzina Ivanishvili and alleged that Bachiashvili concealed profits from him

4/ In the so-called “Bitcoin case”, Bachiashvili had been charged with the misappropriation of a particularly large amount – 8,253.13 bitcoins – and with money laundering. He had previously been sentenced to 11 years’ imprisonment.

3/ His lawyer, Levan Makharashvili, said plea agreements were reached in all criminal cases against Bachiashvili, while criminal proceedings against his parents have been discontinued. Prosecutors had accused them of assisting in the legalisation of illicit income.

2/ According to a statement circulated by the Prosecutor’s Office and reported by Rustavi 2, Bachiashvili “fully admitted guilt in all criminal cases and fully cooperated with the investigation – he compensated the damage”.

1/ Former Director of Bidzina Ivanishvii's co-Investment Fund, Giorgi Bachiashvili, has been released after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. The Ministry of Justice confirmed the information to Publika.

The Georgian Dream has submitted a new legislative initiative: non-recognition of constitutional bodies will become a criminal offense. After massive violations in the 2024 parliamentary elections, the opposition and the majority of society do not recognize the legitimacy of GD.

2/ The rector of Ilia State University, along with the Ilia Student Movement, are actively involved in the ongoing protests in Georgia.

1/ According to a decision by Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Ilia State University will abolish all faculties except pedagogical and ABET-accredited STEM programs, eliminating socio-political, humanities, economics, and language faculties.
