I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:

This is unreal. The 2026 code4lib conference has been cancelled unilaterally by Carnegie Mellon University because the Department of Education raised issues with the diversity scholarships:

I agree! I also find it utterly frustrating when fans (& foe!) of AI talk about how "it's evolving so quickly" as though someone pressed a button once & it's been doing its own thing ever since.

AI is not sentient or even intelligent. Human beings are pushing the technology to do more, more, more.

Just a friendly reminder that DEI isn't just an acronym that you include in your job ads or tack onto a committee. It's created and reinforced by actions and behaviour, whether that happens in public places or behind the scenes ones.
