In September 2025, the Cambridge RestPoll team attended the Buzzing for Recovery workshop in Bristol. The event brought together landowners, organisations, volunteers, conservationists and researchers from across the UK, all working to conserve the shrill carder bee (Bombus sylvarum).

80% of our food crops and wild flowering plants depend on pollination.

Yet one-third of bee, butterfly and hoverfly species is in decline.

Our new EU Pollinator Monitoring Scheme aims to help reverse this trend by 2030.

Masked bees (Hymenoptera: Colletidae: Hylaeus spp.) spend a lot of time collecting pollen for their young, like this one on a sulphur cinquefoil (Rosaceae: Potentilla recta). They lack the transport hairs most bees have and carry it in a secondary "honey stomach." Clayton Michigan, 27 Jun 2014.
