Very much real, someone's reporting friendly fire is the cause, which is believable. I can imagine 3 jets that assumed they were in safe airspace being shot down before/after the mission, as that seems like too many to be shot down over Iranian airspace during the mission tbh.

I'm sad to hear of the death of Rob Grant, half o writing duo Grant Naylor, who created RED DWARF.

I've made negative comments about later series recently, but I'm proud to say the novels and series 1-6 are formative masterpieces of British Comedy.

Star Trek: The Cruise is currently happening and Armin Shimmerman is serving drinks in Quark's Bar.
