When I was a kid I was allowed to go into my neighbor's house as long as the door was unlocked and grab movies off the shelf to borrow. They had tons.

So I do also think there's potentially this missing community aspect of it, too. That brought me a lot of childhood joy!

It's absolutely good for accessibility sometimes. Everything is a trade-off and of course CAPITALISM means that companies will want to slap ads in anywhere they can (ew).

I have a good reason for this personally, which is primarily trying to cut down on clutter in my house. I do have DVDs of my favorite movies, but I don't really want to own shelves and shelves of them.

Renting a DVD tho? Win!
