Does your community offer educational events to help you prepare for wildfire? I attended a CSFD Living with Wildfire meeting this week, and it was excellent.
I was also interviewed by KOAA News5: www.koaa.com/news/wildfir...

We discussed how to prepare for fire and how to react to an evacuation alert, but do you know what to do if youβre the first one to identify an ignition that could potentially result in a wildfire?

16.05.2025 17:03 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs the Red Flag days in areas with drying/dead grasses when we worry about community safety, ember spread, etc.
I hope the results of this work can be used to inform firefighters, policy makers, & community members about locations where pre-fire mitigation should be prioritized.
There have been a number of invasive grass-fueled/wind-driven fires in the news over the last few years, such as the Dec β21 Marshall Fire in Boulder County, CO (burned ~1000 homes/structures) & the Aug β23 fires in Lahaina, Maui, HI (among the top 5 deadliest wildfires in the US since the 1870s).
15.05.2025 20:19 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks, Sean! Great comments & questions. Iβm not a wildfire behavior expert, but between 2011 and 2015, 6% of firefighter injuries were attributed to grass fires, & in the same 4-year period, an additional 52% of injuries were attributed to fire suppression in brush or a brush/grass mixture.
