It is World Digital Preservation Day and I've come to work in the office for a change of scene. Here is a photo of the original version of the 'Happy World Digital Preservation Day' drawing which we have in our office here in York! #WDPD2025

06.11.2025 02:38 β π 9 π 6 π¬ 0 π 0Getting ready for a Digipres North's #wdpd #wdpd2025 special meeting. I love getting to hear what the community is up to, and listening to presentations and demos from colleagues around the region. Today we're getting to see how Explore York are introducing TeraCopy to their workflow.

06.11.2025 10:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Wednesday's #iPRESradio shared some of the contestants at the @ipres2025.bsky.social Digital Preservation bake-off & we went down a rabbit hole of 90s web design thanks to @protoweb.org.web.brid.gy
Speaking of preserving the web... have you heard about our @dpasshconf2026.bsky.social next year?
Excellent #ipres2025 paper from @squaredsong.bsky.social on trust without certification, with a call for a more flexible framework for trust and certification in digital preservation. Interesting discussion on whether certification is the best way of gaining the trust of users.
05.11.2025 13:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes! Looking forward to seeing where this leads!
05.11.2025 12:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ah yes, I was thinking of you! Interesting observation around the change of mindset to focus on what the users of the system want/need rather than just what they want/need.
05.11.2025 12:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also a great explanation from Sonia in the Q&A on why they don't validate the files that come in - whether a file is valid or not is not a part of their acceptance criteria.
05.11.2025 11:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Following on the theme of the messiness or digital records a great presentation from Sonia Ranade and Kirsten Arnold on the user-focused work they have been doing at The National Archives UK on re-envisaging their digital records transfer process #ipres2025
05.11.2025 11:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0On my 2nd coffee of the morning while watching back some of the #ipres2025 sessions from Tuesday. Currently watching @dannynoonan1962.bsky.social on the messiness of digital preservation workflow development. Lots to relate to here!
05.11.2025 10:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Definitely! I think more to come as this research continues too!

How many formats are there?
@anjacks0n.bsky.social presents a paper on seeing if we can answer the question.
Some detective work gets him to the number 12k (I think)
Great talk from @archivistkelsey.bsky.social on accessibility of born digital collections. She discusses the implicit, systemic, and unconscious biases built into hardware and software which can negatively impact users, and encourages us to prioritise the humanity of workers and users #ipres2025
04.11.2025 23:11 β π 6 π 4 π¬ 2 π 0What does responsible openness look like in a world focused on exploitation? How do we balance the impulse to share with the obligation to protect?
This is turning into another really thought provoking keynote "Is openness good?" asks Rosalyn Metz at #ipres2025
04.11.2025 21:04 β π 3 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0Really interested in the Fedora story shared by Rosalyn Metz at #iPRES2025. I knew bits of it (the challenge of migrating from version 3 to 4) but haven't heard it in full before. Lots of useful lessons to learn from this around the importance of community over technology.
04.11.2025 20:58 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I've been to 1.5 iPRES radio sessions today and it has been great (as a virtual attendee in the UK) to have an opportunity to connect and chat with others about iPRES. Also I had an opportunity to talk about mine and @bryonyhooper.bsky.social's poster www.dpconline.org/events/event... #ipres2025
04.11.2025 20:42 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Just attended a really fun virtual Birds of a Feather session at #ipres2025 with Sean Macmillan on digital preservation games. He says "Anyone can build a game". I've left feeling enthused and keen to give it a go! Not sure when I'm going to fit that in exactly...perhaps WDPD next year!
04.11.2025 20:15 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Nice to see DPC toolkits on there too! :-)
04.11.2025 17:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very helpful to have a link to where we can see the posters - thanks Joshua. Tricky to find materials we can catch up on on this side of the world! I should have done what you did last year and stay up all night to watch live! Not sure I would manage that though!
