Come along to a Jubilee Year day for parish musicians at St Chadโs Cathedral this Saturday.
A few highly productive hours spent at the organ of Norwich Cathedral last night preparing for todayโs concert which starts in just over an hour at 1:10pm. Thereโs something very special about being alone (well almost) in such a large building with so much history and filling it with soundโฆ

Chances to hear William Harrisโs organ Sonata performed live :
1. Norwich Cathedral this Thursday 16 October 2026 at 1:10pm
2. St Chadโs Cathedral Birmingham Thursday 6 November 2026 at 1:15pm.
To very different-sounding instruments, and Harrisโs Sonata will sound wonderful on both!
1/2 Composer William Harris en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William... taught my first organ teacher, the late Michael Burton, and he mentioned him often in my early organ lessons so Iโve always felt a connection.
Harrisโ Organ Sonata is rarely played, but is a real gem.
Two opportunities to hear it live.
Another good rehearsal last night - Haydn coming along nicely and some juicy jazz chords taking shape in the complex harmonies of our arrangement of โBlue Moonโ. Looking forward to this all coming together in @sellyparksingers.co.uk concert on Saturday 28 March 2026 at 3:00pm.
Put it in your diary!
Yes, not sure what happened there! ๐

Let us give thanks for all our Altar Servers!
On Saturday over 320 of them gathered at St Chad's Cathedral for the Annual Mass of Thanksgiving for the Guild of St Stephen.
An opportunity for servers to come together as we give thanks for their faithful service.
This eveningโs concert is in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany - a picturesque town on the banks of the Moselle.
The church of St Briktius houses a large and powerful instrument complete with an impressive set of horizontal trumpets.
Music from Germany, England and Franceโฆ

Another highly enjoyable concert yesterday evening, this time playing at Wendelinus-Basilika, St.Wendel on the beautiful Klais organ - a programme of works by Wesley, Bach, Vierne, Lindberg, Langlais and two further works by Paul Spicer.
28.09.2025 06:15 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Greatly enjoyed playing the wonderfully colourful instrument in St Johann Basilica, Saarbrรผcken, Germany this morning. An all-English composers programme including works by Paul Spicer, Henry Smart, Edwin Lemare, William Harris and Percy Whitlock.
Thanks to everyone who came to the concert!
Good to be in Notre Dame de Paris again today.
Phenomenal improvisations during Mass by Thibault Fajoles throughout - totally inspiringโฆ

Ross Daly and Paul Carr at St Bartโs Penn
Last Saturday I played the organ concert marking the completion of the refurbishment of the organ of St Bart's Penn. Daly Organs have done a fabulous job turning a clunky action into something which feels musical under the hands and feet. The large audience of over 200 made for a lovely atmosphere.

05.09.2025 18:21 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 03/4 It is, and always will be quite a quirky instrument, although its core is 1872 Walker there were tonal changes made in 1974. I think ultimately itโs musical, has character and does the job required of it convincingly, and now it all works well and feels great under the hands and feet.
05.09.2025 18:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 02/4 Today, Iโve been there preparing for tomorrow eveningโs concert which marks the completion of a full refurbishment of the organ by Ross Daly, who has worked wonders over the last seven months or so restoring everything from the ground up.
05.09.2025 18:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 01/4 It was on a Friday evening during the summer of 1989 that I first encountered the organ in St Bart's Church Penn when I played for choir practice there. Iโve been associated with the church there in one way or another ever since, and from 2016 have shared the organist duties with Gary Cole.
