Harris’ Organ Sonata is rarely played, but is a real gem.

Let us give thanks for all our Altar Servers!

On Saturday over 320 of them gathered at St Chad's Cathedral for the Annual Mass of Thanksgiving for the Guild of St Stephen.

An opportunity for servers to come together as we give thanks for their faithful service.

This evening’s concert is in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany - a picturesque town on the banks of the Moselle.
The church of St Briktius houses a large and powerful instrument complete with an impressive set of horizontal trumpets.

Another highly enjoyable concert yesterday evening, this time playing at Wendelinus-Basilika, St.Wendel on the beautiful Klais organ - a programme of works by Wesley, Bach, Vierne, Lindberg, Langlais and two further works by Paul Spicer.

Greatly enjoyed playing the wonderfully colourful instrument in St Johann Basilica, Saarbrücken, Germany this morning. An all-English composers programme including works by Paul Spicer, Henry Smart, Edwin Lemare, William Harris and Percy Whitlock.
Thanks to everyone who came to the concert!

Ross Daly and Paul Carr at St Bart’s Penn

Last Saturday I played the organ concert marking the completion of the refurbishment of the organ of St Bart's Penn. Daly Organs have done a fabulous job turning a clunky action into something which feels musical under the hands and feet. The large audience of over 200 made for a lovely atmosphere.

Tomorrow, Sunday 7 September 2025, exactly 22 years since the first SundayAfternoonOrganMusic at Holy Trinity Wordsley, I shall play my final and 241st programme in the series there at 3:00pm. A programme packed with different styles to show off the organ one last time. Hope to see you there!

4/4 Come and hear it for yourself: 7:30pm tomorrow, Saturday 6 September 2025.

3/4 It is, and always will be quite a quirky instrument, although its core is 1872 Walker there were tonal changes made in 1974. I think ultimately it’s musical, has character and does the job required of it convincingly, and now it all works well and feels great under the hands and feet.

2/4 Today, I’ve been there preparing for tomorrow evening’s concert which marks the completion of a full refurbishment of the organ by Ross Daly, who has worked wonders over the last seven months or so restoring everything from the ground up.

1/4 It was on a Friday evening during the summer of 1989 that I first encountered the organ in St Bart's Church Penn when I played for choir practice there. I’ve been associated with the church there in one way or another ever since, and from 2016 have shared the organist duties with Gary Cole.
