I make beer for a living and for fun. Middle aged ramblings on beer and domestic nonsense. I also grow stuff and keep chickens. Proud member of the Guardian-reading, tofu-eating Wokerati. With a side order of Huddersfield Town.

I had my first underaged pub pint in there. Happy days.

End of walk treat. Those that know, know that this is the home of the best ice cream in the world.

Maybe, but it scores well on litter, graffiti and dog shit

One of the few remaining mills that hasn’t β€œaccidentally” burned down yet. River Colne, Huddersfield.

I’m in Primrose Hill now, which isn’t as nice as it sounds.

Actually it looks better from this side with a bit of minimal trespassing. The rest of the mill burned down β€œaccidentally” couple of years ago, with only the tower escaping.

Newsome Mill clock tower. Something else I’m not going to be climbing any time soon.

From Newsome. The soon-to-be-demolished Berry Brow flats in the valley bottom. Holme Moss, West Nab and Deer Hill on the horizon.

Huddersfield from Castle Hill. We used to have to come up here on school cross country. Although in my case it was more like a nice walk in the countryside instead of lessons.

The tower is closed. At least that means I don’t have to climb it

Sorry, I can’t read your message. I’ve lost my specs.

Castle Hill in the distance is the highest point on the route. If the tower is open I’ll be going all the way to the top at 1000ft above sea level. I’m I’m still alive by then.

Lots of ascent on today’s route so this is a very welcome bench, although I wish I’d remembered to bring a flask.

Farnley Tyas looking towards Emley Moor.

And we’re off! Continuing from where I left off last week. Shepley to Huddersfield via Castle Hill today

I’ve left all my compost affairs in order.

It’s sunny, it’s Sunday and it’s Spring. Sort of.

I might as well head out for a nice long walk before the world ends.

I’m in a bit of a quandary. 3/4 of The Sex Pistols are playing Halifax Piece Hall in July.

Should I take this last opportunity to see them while they (and I) are still alive?

I’ve drunk plenty of Tennant’s over the last year and enjoyed it. I didn’t enjoy this though πŸ˜‚. I had the Session and thought it was dreadful, but was told the lager was ok.

Amid the celebrations when #htafc went 2-0 up against Manchester United in October 2017 I turned to The Boy and said β€œEnjoy this moment, because it’ll be all downhill from here”.

I was criticised at the time for being negative, but it looks like being even worse than I predicted.

Absolute shite.

Apparently the lager was ok, but I had the Session and it was dreadful. And that’s not just the beer snob in me talking; it was shite.

I’m going out drinking with Firstborn and her partner later, so I’m wisely making slow cooked beef short rib in red wine now for when my future pissed self returns home. Hopefully not having called at the kebab shop.

But there is definitely original music? Not just twats filming gigs on their iPhones.

Following this conversation with interest. The only thing I currently pay for is Spotify, which we use loads because it satisfy all of my niche musical interests without adverts.

Probably twenty years ago when that was still called the Shipley Pride I had an β€œincident” while delivering there. I’ll tell you about it next time I see you.

I still shudder when I think about it.

Yep. Cooked properly I really like tofu, but tempeh has a texture like fillings you had at the dentist in the 1970s.
