They believe it to be a zero sum game. If someone else gets it then they won't get it. On top of that they've been taught to hate others as a way of controlling them. The same reason they went after black people then is the same reason they're going after immigrants now. It's the boogieman.

For like 99% of them (I'm being generous) it has nothing to do with the fetus or baby and everything to do with the woman. They don't care whether the kid lives or dies because they don't care about the kid at all - it's an afterthought. They only care about exerting control. It's all about control.

I've thought about having super powers extensively and have come to the conclusion that I shouldn't have them. I would love to think that I'd use them to help others. Unfortunately, I'd mostly use it for petty revenge. I'd be the Z list villain the heroes would look at and just wonder why.
