i need allies to stop looking at the ongoing horrors that trans people are facing and responding with "wow imagine what will happen when this comes for [others]"

yeah that'll suck, can we talk about it happening to us RIGHT NOW? we're more than the canary in the coal mine. we deserve to live too.

Fun fact, US passports did not have a gender marker until 1977, when a rising trend in unisex fashion started freaking the government out.

I’ve been talking about Alysa Liu’s story about her quitting skating only to come back and become even better because she did it for herself and this came to me in a dream…

She's the worst, sorry!!! We electively follow Montreal and Seattle because there's no DC extension team yet but we ultimately are rooting for everyone except the Frost.

ALSO, before you go all in on uncritically stanning the USA women's hockey team, be aware that women are also capable of being republicans, and also that Britta Curl is a rabid transphobe and my enemy on sight.

pretty much everyone else rules though. pwhl games are free on YouTube, follow them

Semi-relatedly, something a lot of folks may not realize is how many PWHL players have outside jobs & schooling in a way their male counterparts don't. This is because:
1. The PWHL salary cap is much, much lower than the NHL
2. US pro women's hockey was not a viable career option at ALL before 2023

You're mad that billions of dollars are being spent on gardening young men to sell their bodies at the expense of any coherent belief system, and that many of them will be charismatic or capable of amazing, inspiring things, and you will never know how much of that is due to nepotism and handshakes.

23.02.2026 19:07 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

You guys aren't actually mad at each other. You're mad that someone on the world stage can genuinely believe the things they're saying about progress and not think that disqualifies their actions, because their experience of politics is totally insulated by money, industry, and their social peers.

You can get mad at HR fans for willfully ignoring the ugly legacy of league bigotry that is largely unchallenged beyond pithy soundbites. You can also get mad at Good Boy players who will speak up and out about their desire to see a changing culture only to party with the enemy. But like...

--and ultimately, I'm fascinated by the fact that the real enemy of both parties here is the same thing: a multibillion dollar sports industrial complex that sells athletes as figureheads for their country while also completely shielding them from the reality of actually living in it.

not QTing, not getting involved, but as both a longtime hockey viewer and a vocal leftist, I have sympathy for both starry-eyed new hockey fans shocked by the political leanings of the usa team and for the frustrated people who have watched pop culture sell an absolute fiction of the industry--

Nine states are challenging the integration mandate under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The case, Texas v. Kennedy, could impact the rights of people with disabilities to receive services in community settings instead of institutions. The U.S. Supreme Court previously upheld these protections in Olmstead v. L.C..

At stake:
The right to live in the community
Protections against disability discrimination
Access to equitable healthcare and services
Broader nondiscrimination protections tied to federal law

A huge issue that I don’t see a lot of people talking about right now is that 9 states are currently trying to challenge the Americans With Disabilities and the Rehabilitation Act. These acts are directly responsible for many rights that disabled people have, and more people need to be aware.

ALYSA LIU SKATES AT MILANO CORTINA

maybe in our lifetimes we’ll forget
that lakes once froze over of their own accord, that
children in threadbare mittens, oversized mufflers, stumbling silhouettes with marshmallow middles
held this simple dance of joy and fear sacred through the seasons of their lives
without ever counting down the years left to try again.
maybe the last Olympian to truly love winter has already been born. maybe it’s you.
i wonder if you know just how unfair it is, how many people have let you down, have robbed you of your childhood and your twilight in the same breath, have kept you from
soft falls and gentle rains and the animal of your own body only to praise you as you rip it all back.
for what it’s worth, we’re cheering.
for what it’s worth, you’re beautiful.
we want to believe: if you can still love this, maybe
it’s not too late.

i’m out of the habit of getting poems onto the page but i’ve been thinking all morning about alysa liu’s gorgeous short skate and climate grief and what it means to be in the dazzling 2nd act of your life at 20, in a craft that gives you so little time, in a world that doesn’t seem able to hold it.

I have wasted so many hours of work (and my life) just trying to Frankenstein what I've been handed into text that flows without restating itself every three paragraphs in a way that directly contradicts what it said the first time. it's not cute!!!

in most cases, having a starting point for a contract assignment is hugely useful, but writing thousands of words of competitive grant material from scratch is actually so much less arduous and frustrating than trying to turn 16 pages of chatgpt output into a cohesive narrative that doesn't just lie

very many people want to think they support children's rights and the idea of consent/body autonomy/self-ownership for minors but very few are willing to sit with the discomfort of what that actually means. full self-ownership means the right to make choices you may not personally like. full stop.

i'm not going to quotepost but i want to go on record again as saying that the correct response to anti-trans scaremongering is never to say "well NOBODY wants to advocate for HARDCORE trans care for literal children, OBVIOUSLY" because 1. needless concession and 2. children are real people

17.02.2026 20:44 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

there is an extremely simple answer to the "abandon trans rights" folks and it is "no" and also "fuck you"
