btw about that pixar thing, the reason why these people think having a conversation about gay people with kids is difficult is because they don't know a way to say to their kid "gay people are normal but you are not allowed to be one" without sounding like a bigot (there is a reason for that)

Just wait until the book has been released. Then there's not the concern that someone who desperately wants to read it will buy and read a book instead, plot details are public, and you're not being a jerk. Sell it as a collectable, not an early-access experience.

To be very clear, selling an ARC you legitimately own is bad form and kinda shitty if you do it before the book is released, but it's never piracy. You have the legal right to do it at any time.

Baen is selling them directly, and that's very different than buying a print ARC on the secondary market.

I never give anyone dirty looks for bringing me ARCs to sign. I have no idea where they came from.

No one should be selling ARCs, period. But someone selling the ARC after the book is out is likely to be asking for less money, and hence doing less potential harm.

Something I really appreciate about Bridgerton is that Cressida’s dresses always look like they’ve just paused midway through devouring her.

Selling ARCs hurts everyone involved in making the book happen--AND it's a dick move. Please don't be an asshole about us trying to give you fun, free, cool shit.

Don't buy or sell advance reader copies.

The doctrine of first sale means you can't be legally punished for selling an ARC, and if you just picked it up at a con, it's not like the publisher can track it back to you. But the author doesn't get paid. The resale is invisible in a way that ARCs for promo uses are not.

2. If you're able to acquire an ARC, remember that "not for resale" is on the cover for a reason, and please, please, do not sell it. Selling ARCs is what leads publishers to reduce and reduce their print runs: we're going to wind up all-virtual if people don't cut it out.
