Anyway one evergreen post that I am forced to occasionally make is to let everyone know that if you can only read one book about Iran that book should be All the Shah’s Men by Steven Kinzer. Remarkably deep and broad as well as concise.

Hope so because we have seen that the putative opposition party isn’t gonna do a goddamn thing to hold these people accountable.

Well Chicago friends, I may find myself staying overnight tonight so maybe dinner? Tbd.

Not sure what the hell is going on with the Mosquito Fleet Act and amendments to it right now but it sure feels like someone is trying to torpedo this bill...and maybe passenger-only ferries in Puget Sound in general.

Anyone following it who can talk me off the pier?

Ok now I’m frustrated.

Thanks, we are actually on the move again albeit slowly.

Sounds like they are getting trains moving slowly. We have to wait for some Metra trains and then they will let us go around. So probably just a tight transfer window in CHI?

We left SEA about an hour late but made up the time easily en route. Must be frustrating for the train engineer to be stuck 30 minutes from CHI now. (I’m not frustrated, just anxious until I know the plan for getting us to our connecting trains.)

If they let me off the train now I could bike there in time to board.

I appreciate the conductor actually now telling us what’s up, alas it is a fatality :-/

Pretty sure this is the incident :-(

Hi Chicago, can anyone tell me what commuter rail incident occurred that could result in officials stopping our Chicago-bound Amtrak train south of Glenview? Near Morton Grove.

Seems like Milwaukee has done a great job of renovating its older buildings, yes?

Can never tell for sure til you are on the ground but looks like quite above average bike trails all over.

Quarry Heights, WI as shown in goggle sic maps.

Train is cruising toward Milwaukee and man this area just east — Quarry Heights — painfully close to being a dense lil walkable neighborhood with like 50% less surface parking and probably more transit (don’t know the transit situation here).

Lol, I eliminated cranes from my search quite prematurely. Thank you!

I’m in Wisconsin. What is a heron-esque bird with a red cap? (NOT a red-crowned crane, those are rare & don’t live here.)

Large fluffy ginger cat crouched next to a chair. He wants food and friends but he’s just a little uncertain about it all.

I know it’s not easy, which is why I hate that every time I pass a little herd of sheep I think that I want to be a sheep farmer.

What would a better name be for the Empire Builder? Evocative, historically accurate but without the colonizer vibes? I have always hated the route name.

3/ or, fly to Seattle. If you’re coming in summer and you take the Empire builder from Seattle to glacier the sun stays out until pretty late at night and you will be able to see a lot of of the North Cascade Mountains along the way.

2/2 not sure what the best train for you to take from Texas – is that where you are? – Maybe the Southwest Chief to Chicago and then the Empire Builder to Glacier? Amtrak travels through the park. I believe the service inside the park is bus based.
