And that does NOT mean having to embrace centrism or even, with this particular example (see quoted post) having to surrender to an inevitability of capitalism as the dominant force of social organization.

Please just advertise the actual price. It's not that hard. @thewaroncars.bsky.social I will probably still get a ticket for the SEA program but this shit sucks for those of us w/o much discretionary $. This stuff adds up quick.

Town Hall offers sliding scale prices but doesn't tell you until you put tix in the cart that there is a $4 "service" fee. That means people who try to buy on the lower end of the scale pay 2x the % of ticket price for the service charge, which also inflates the price by 15% for people w/ less $.

Residents along Rainier Avenue want changes on dangerous street Activists rallied Wednesday night along what they call Seattle's most dangerous street. Rainier Avenue South averages one car crash a day, about 1,200 in the last three years.

Why hasn't @mayorofseattle.bsky.social made Rainier Ave S safe?

May 20, 2015: www.kiro7.com/news/residen...

"When Seattle city councilmember Bruce Harrell came by the rally, he saw the problem for himself ... KIRO 7 asked Harrell why it is taking so long to make Rainier safer." 1/

Mayor Harrell rejected my “insinuation” on Thursday that suing over 7-month-old executive orders four days before a primary might be political.

I'm so sorry, Andrew. Your rage and pain is justified, and I share it, but I doubt that's comforting to hear. I am sorry I can't do more to help.

equity is also a big deal at Metro, so if they are approving without pushback....I'd ask that to change, too.

@seattledot.bsky.social The current traffic management plan for Seafair is not consistent with SDOT values. Please involve the community before approving next year!

@seattledot.bsky.social I see on your about page that Equity is one of your core values. So it’s strange to me that you would approve permits that protect the most exlusivd blocks from traffic and crowds during Seafair while doing nothing for the more affordable blocks. Please check on this!

@seattledot.bsky.social The blocks with waterviews in Mt Baker (east of 38th Ave S) also get Street Closed signs with police protection during Seafair, which forces parking and trash into the blocks west of 38th. I am curious who I should ask if I want my block added to the parking plan! Thank you!

@seattledot.bsky.social Hi! When the bus lane on Rainier is closed and turned over to Seafair traffic, does SDOT make this decision? Is Metro consulted? Curious if you could please provide some insight into why bus riders are forced to sit in traffic with everyone else.

Working on a project that requires I scroll insta for these properties for reasons and it's so interesting how much of the activated space is outdoors, not indoors/at home. Show people hosting little parties in those apartments, enjoy breakfast alone, whatever.

Do people marketing rental properties think that by omitting humans from photos that they are letting prospective customers project themselves into the apartment/townhouse, whatever? Personally, I'd mix it up a bit more.

This is so cool. I've long wanted something like this for transpo and housing in SEA, maybe option to select specific issues or get a weekly to-do list.

Ultimately an abundant world can mean people consuming to the max with no care as to how that consumption affects others, or it can mean crafting a better world together. Those aren’t always the same thing.

04.08.2025 13:22 — 👍 17    🔁 1    💬 1    📌 0

I think about this often. "Abundance" is leaving the tap running 24/7 - frictionless! - and speeding up resource depletion. True abundance, if not exactly waste not/want not, means using what we have well.

Most of my freelance clients are in the np sector, too.

BTW, I don't critique the np sector from outside. I have spent most of my work life in nonprofits, including quite a few years producing edu programming for capacity building. I know how boards work, the financials (do you look up 990s before applying for a np job?), the perennial issues, etc.

You know, I sometimes feel like I'm being kind of a bitch by refusing to subscribe to Substack newsletters or share Substack links. This is why. Substack is a right-wing social media platform that uses its token left-wing writers and apolitical newsletters as cover. I don't want any part of that.
