It's crazy to see people here simping for Getty Images. Not only is Getty already a pretty evil family, but Getty Images is evil by itself. They like to sue random people. They sell other people's images and images from the public domain without permission.

And also between "the robots are tools" (valuable assistive devices that should be respected for their ability to make light work of heavy tasks) and "the robots are tools" (property that can be mistreated, abused, and disregarded without consequence)

AI firm wins high court ruling after photo agency’s copyright claim Ruling in case brought by Getty Images against Stability AI is seen as a blow to copyright owners

The judge ruled: β€œAn AI model such as Stable Diffusion which does not store or reproduce any copyright works (and has never done so) is not an β€˜infringing copy’.”

Buying and scanning the books you own is now "outright theft."

Love seeing people uncritically take up RIAA/MPAA talking points from 2001.

Post image Dr. Susan Frantz, a Connecticut therapist who saw DiNello as a client until recently, wrote a letter in late summer about DiNello’s progress during treatment. DiNello had requested the letter in order to share it with a Globe reporter as a testament to the effectiveness of her work with ChatGPT. (DiNello still sees another therapist.)

Frantz wrote that as DiNello built her AI family, she had β€œshifted from struggling with impulsive behaviors to becoming more self-aware, calm, and hopeful.”
β€œThe task now,” the therapist wrote, β€œis to continue to integrate these supports into your life in a way that complements your connections with real people and the therapeutic work you are doing — rather than replacing them.”

honestly i think it's remarkably dishonest to talk like this when the article itself is consistently empathetic and includes testimony *from the person's own therapist* that these interactions have made her a more emotionally stable person

Most of them are thai character strings

Probably corresponds to characters common enough bother reserving tokens for but not enough to really make sense of how they are used, if I had to guess

Symbolic Strength More Important Than Facts When It Comes ToΒ Misinformation Why do some people endorse claims that can easily be disproved? It’s one thing to believe false information, but another to actively stick with something that’s obviously wrong. Our new research, published in the Journal of Social Psychology, suggests that some people consider it a β€œwin” to lean in to known falsehoods. We are social psychologists who study political psychology and how people reason about reality.

So tired of people using the term "theft" in the context of copyright law.

Copyright infringement is not ethically or legally equivalent to theft in any way. Even if you are staunchly opposed to it, you should be able to see the difference.
