People with disabilities/chronic illness need accommodations to work that are almost never offered by employers to the full, including working under 50%, they have often dynamic health issues that can come out of nowhere, and need jobs with a lot of flexibility in terms of output and hours worked.

If you're hosting an event and there's no one in attendance wearing a mask, your first thought shouldn't be "no one's masking anymore." The reality is you've decided not to make the space safe enough. Many people still want to avoid infection and your event isn't worth the risk.

I needed very little encouragement for this, I'm very excited about it:

Since I’ve already finished the reconstructions of the thyreophorans from the Iberian Peninsula, I’m sharing here a couple of poster-style visualizations showing the different genera and the sites where they can be found

Let’s start with the different genera, arranged by clade and size

So last year I found out I had a pretty bad iron deficiency and like I thought how bad could it be. So the normal amount should be like minimum 50 to 150 mcg.

Mine was 12 😭 no wonder I was tired and weak for so much of my life lol

A lot of dinosaur tracks are technically undertracks, from layers beneath where the foot met the sediment and smushed it. When we get the preserved track surface, or close to it, we get stuff like delicate little foot scales. How pretty is this?

these, however, do not hold a candle to the time a family friend, EXTREMELY hung over when the Jehovah's Witnesses knocked on the door early on a weekend morning, opened the door naked, saw who it was, moaned, "No...no...oh, *fuck*, no..." & closed the door again.

The JWs never came back. Ever. :))

One thing I'll say about being so tired that I have no fucks left to give: door to door solicitors don't know how to deal with someone who could not give less of a fuck about the social contract and will just keep saying "nope, not interested, go away" before closing the door mid-sentence.

Today I reviewed a paper for an academic journal. Please stop using β€œhealth literacy” as an excuse for why people don’t take up an intervention. It isn’t that they β€œdon’t know better”, it’s that they have their reasons that are valid and it’s your job to figure out what those reasons are…

Yes! Side effects like crushing fatigue from medications like Metformin are a major reason for stopping a medication - it doesn't matter how good for you a medication is in the long term if it leaves you unable to function in your day to day life.

Food allergy: begin at the skin, end at the mast cell? | Nature Reviews Immunology Food allergy is an acute IgE-mediated reaction that occurs in response to food components and affects 1–10% of the global population. It is often thought to be a disease of the gastrointestinal tract, in which oral exposure to a food allergen induces an IgE-sensitizing response that primes the host immune system to react to the eliciting allergen following subsequent oral exposure. However, emerging evidence from clinical and basic research studies suggests that maladaptive immune responses in the skin also contribute to the development of food allergy. These responses can promote the development of food-specific IgE and reshape the gut immune microenvironment in a manner that predisposes to IgE-mediated activation of mast cells and clinical manifestations of allergic disease following subsequent food exposures. In this Review, we discuss how different routes of exposure to food antigens can contribute to allergic sensitization and describe how mast cells ultimately drive the allergic

Food allergies, affecting 1-10% globally, may start at the skin, not gut. Skin exposure could lead to IgE sensitization. Mast cells play a key role. PMID:40571771, Nat Rev Immunol 2025, @NatRevImmunol https://doi.org/10.1038/s41577-025-01185-y #Medsky #Pharmsky #RNA #ASHG #ESHG πŸ§ͺ
