This year's GCMAS annual meeting kicked off with a two day pre-course on "Basic Gait Analysis and Interpretation". This course was designed to provide anyone working in a clinical lab necessary clinical & technical information to become competent in data analysis and interpretation.

Thanks! We're looking at pediatric flatfoot to start but looking into some other pathologies soon.

I'm thrilled that we had a CurveBeam HiRise installed at Shriners Children’s this week and excited to explore ways we can use weightbearing CT to better evaluate pediatric foot deformities.

I'm forever honored to be the bookends of Tom Brown's PhD students with Don Anderson. It was incredible to see 13 of 19 of his PhD students together. His approach to rigorous science, thinking creatively, and clinical collaborations have played a large role in my career

It was a real privilege and pleasure to return to the University of Iowa to honor my mentor at the dedication of the Thomas D Brown Biomechanics Research Lab. The fact that 13 of his 19 former PhD students attended says a lot about the lasting impact of his mentorship. @karenkruger.bsky.social

The latest issue of Foot & Ankle International includes updated standard definitions for foot & ankle terminology. They were originally introduced in 1997 and were reviewed by the AOFAS research committee and foot & ankle biomedical engineering experts in 2024.

It was such a pleasure to host Tiphanie Raffegeau as the Marquette BME graduate seminar speaker and learn about the work she's been doing using virtual reality as a tool for fall prevention research in older adults.

It was great to be able to volunteer with the Perry Initiative today and talk with this great group of girls about working in engineering and orthopedic surgery. These programs feel more important than ever now.

Methodology for computing stress-time exposure from the discrete element analysis (DEA) computed contact stresses. For each increment of the gait cycle, contact stresses (top row) were multiplied by the length of time spent in that loading configuration to obtain contact stress-time data (middle row). These contact stress-time data were summed across the gait cycle to obtain a per-step value, which was then scaled by both an assumed 2 million steps per year and either (1) patient age at the time of surgery for preoperative models or (2) time from periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) until most recent outcome measures for postoperative models (bottom row). This summation and scaling process provided a single measure of contact stress-time exposure.
