It's amazing what evidence based policy can do.

The evidence that the 20mph limit is working fantastic from the point of view of saving lives and saving the taxpayer money in Wales is overwhelming.

You can be annoyed about it.

But you can't argue that it isn't doing what it was supposed to do.

β€˜Worrying’ levels of screen time means young people losing confidence to socialise in person, minister warns – UK politics live Culture secretary Lisa Nandy says β€˜majority of young people spend all, or almost all, of their free time alone in their bedrooms, online’

This is not caused primarily by "screen time".

It's been caused by the mass eradication of third places for young people in basically every city over the past three decades - and a society that's hostile to the concept of teens socialising in public spaces.

About 10 years ago I was at the British Museum, the Sutton Hoo room was virtually empty and I got a good 10 minutes just looking at the helmet face to 'face'. It's a hell of a thing, immensely powerful.

I saw it as a teenage, I was trying to work out the significance of the B+W sequence and years later saw an interview with Lindsay Anderson where he said it was because they ran out of cash and could only afford B+W stock. I need to rewatch Britannia Hospital as well.

See also the Towy Valley cycle path from Carmarthen to Llandeilo that got delayed while competing Councillors apparently argued about 'gateway sculptures' at either end.

It's pissing stair rods in Llanelli.
PS go to Carrick-on-Suir if you're near, there's not much there, just a nice small town, but you might bump into Sean Kelly so it'd be worth it.

The Will Hayward article that dives deep into the data around the 20mph default in Wales.

It busts the myths and celebrates the success for Welsh communities.

Turns out the 20mph limit was great idea! Two years on from the controversial policy, it's becoming increasingly clear that the doubters were wrong

For the Β£49bn cost of a 3rd runway at Heathrow, the Spanish could build more than 3 high speed rail lines.
- London-Glasgow in 3h (linked to HS1 to Paris)
- Bristol-Newcastle in 2h
- London-St Ives in 2.5h

Plus they'd be near zero carbon. Explain to me why a 3rd runway is good value?
