Now at #CL2025, V. Cvrček and M. Fidler present the differences between East and West through associations in mainstream CZ media.
Results: West is a geopolitical adversary contrasting with Russia. East is a geographic place.

Discussing context in corpus linguistic studies is tricky, says @gavinbrookes.bsky.social too — corpora themselves might not always include all the metadata we need. Totally agree; have been working on merging metadata the last month 😃

This afternoon, I will give a talk eith Tora Hedin about how the gender-neutral Swedish pronoun “hen” has been translated into Czech in books. Our whole population only consists of four books, but there are nine different translation strategies in them!

Attending the conference for all Nordic Slavists, #NordSlav25, this week. Several intruiging talks, and it becomes clear how Ukrainian has taken over from Russian as a majority language.
For the first time since these conferences started, there are talks also in Ukrainian.

Absolutely! Both things I'm on concern how politicians create discourses, one in Czech, one in Swedish.

Just got off from two days examining and supervising students of Translation Studies, which has been a delight. Now back to unpaid research and paid proofreading.

Obviously not too often engaged in BS 🤣 but otherwise nothing to complain about, really.
