OPEN CALL: LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

The Pastrana Foundation and Delfina Foundation welcome applications from contemporary visual artists based in Latin America for a residency in London from 21 September to 13 December 2026.

Turns out No Kings Paris, announced for the Place de la Bastille, happened instead at Les Halles. So I missed it twice. I went to the wrong place, but it didn't happen at the announced site either. Protests will not stop the Trump regime. They are a small, still inadequate action to turn the tide.

We did not find No Kings on the Place de la République. Other protests were ongoing, including a huge rally for trans rights. The queens usurped No King.

I am off to the No Kings rally on the Place de la République in Paris. It will take millions standing up to reverse the damage of Trump and his cadre of sycophants. A new and better republic will arise from the ashes, but only if we make it happen.

Tonight I am in Manchester, UK, a very strange urban conglomeration, to see the premiere of Marina Abramovic's four-hour "intervention" at Factory International, an institutional partner of Sacatar.

In our Open Call, we received 333 applications from creative individuals from 55 nations. We will announce the Fellowships for 2026 in mid- to late-November.

It is a fact that Charlie Kirk was an islamophobic, mysogynist, homophobic, racist, "white christian" nationalist. It is a fact that the Republicans and the Trump administration embrace his values. It is not a crime to state these facts.

This is what America has become under Trump and his accomplices. A friend told me that an artist he knows flew to the US with a valid visa, a letter of invitation from an artist residency, and a generous stipend to cover her costs. She was deported back to Brazil three hours after her arrival.

Langston Hughes wrote the following poem in 1935. Citizens of the United States made great progress toward the realization of these ideals, until now. Ninety years have passed since Hughes wrote this poem/manifesto, and now we see the progress made rapidly slipping away.
