Step off the grand theatre of St George's Hall, cross the plateau, and you are standing in a part of the city where Liverpool’s civic self confidence once posed for photographs. It was called Commutation Row.

Exchange Station in Liverpool began life as Liverpool Exchange railway station, opening on 13 May 1850 on Tithebarn Street to serve the city’s booming rail traffic in the Victorian era.
