#FrenchPacificAcademy Two Vanuatu police officers joined their Australian and Fijian colleagues for a week of training with the French police in New Caledonia on managing urban violence. This cooperation strengthens regional security.

#AcadémieduPacifique Deux policiers vanuatais ont participé, avec des collègues australiens et fidjiens, à une semaine de formation avec la police française en Nouvelle-Calédonie, sur la gestion des violences urbaines. Une coopération qui renforce la sécurité régionale.

With Frédéric Roure, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Pacific: presentation of “Campus Mobile Pacifique,” a mobility program with €44,000 for the National University of Vanuatu:

➡️ Hosting of five IRD researchers in Port Vila.

Excellent discussions with Alcide Ponga, President of the Government of New Caledonia, visiting Port Vila. Air transport, free trade agreement, submarine cable, nickel slag... The potential for development between New Caledonia and Vanuatu, such close neighbors, is immense.

Avec Frédéric Roure, Secrétaire permanent adjoint pour le Pacifique : présentation de “Campus Mobile Pacifique”, un programme de mobilité avec 44k€ pour l’Université nationale de Vanuatu :
➡️ 15 étudiants formés à l'IRD à Nouméa ;
➡️ accueil de 5 chercheurs de l'IRD à l'UNV à Port-Vila.

Excellent échange avec Alcide Ponga président du Gouvernement de la Nouvelle-Calédonie, en visite à Port-Vila. Transport aérien, accord de libre-échange, câble sous-marin, scories du nickel… Le potentiel de développement entre la Nouvelle-Calédonie et le Vanuatu, voisins si proches, est immense.

This financing agreement was signed with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, in the presence of the Minister of Health and the MP for Pentecôte, former Prime Minister Charlot Salwai, who initiated the project. The national daily newspaper reports on it.

Another promise kept ✅
In 2023 in Port Vila, President Emmanuel Macron announced the reconstruction of the Melsisi Hospital on Pentecost Island. AFD turned it into a €5 million “Health Project”: three equipped facilities + training. It's signed.

Cet accord de financement a été signé avec le Vice-Premier Ministre et ministre des Finances, en présence du ministre de la Santé et du député de Pentecôte, l’ancien Premier ministre Charlot Salwai, à l’initiative du projet. Le quotidien national en parle.

Une autre promesse tenue ✅
En 2023 à Port-Vila, le Président Emmanuel Macron avait annoncé la reconstruction de l’hôpital de Melsisi, sur l’île de Pentecôte. L'AFD - Agence Française de Développement en a fait un “Projet Santé” de 5 M€ : 3 infrastructures équipées + de la formation. C’est signé.

⚓️ The Alizé, a 27-meter sailboat of the French resident commissioner in the New Hebrides, was acquired by Maurice Delaunay in the early 1960s and sailed with a crew of eight. Only these bridge instruments remain today, salvaged from the embassy after the earthquake.

⚓️ L’Alizé, voilier de 27 m du commissaire-résident français aux Nouvelles-Hébrides, avait été acquis par Maurice Delaunay au début des années 1960 et naviguait avec 8 marins. Il n’en subsiste que ces instruments du poste de pilotage, sauvés de l’ambassade après le séisme.

Last week, the French Ambassador for the Pacific
Véronique Roger-Lacan was in the Solomon Islands with her deputy Guillaume Josso and our Head of cooperation Yannick Le Roux. During her visit, she held numerous meetings with government officials and civil society representatives.

Vice-PM, Ministre de la Sécurité nationale, Secrétaire général du ministère des Affaires étrangères, musée d'Honiara, université, association de femmes artistes, presse et agence des pêches du FIP. De nombreuses perspectives de coopération ouvertes, que nous poursuivrons en 2026.

La semaine dernière, l'ambassadrice pour le Pacifique Véronique Roger-Lacan était aux Îles Salomon avec son adjoint Guillaume Josso et notre COCAC Yannick Le Roux. Une visite de 3 jours au cours de laquelle elle a eu de nombreux entretiens avec le gouvernement et la société civile.

Health is a priority for France in Vanuatu, and great things can be achieved with small amounts of money: signing a €15,000 agreement with the Director General of the Ministry of Health to renovate the operating theater of Norsup Hospital, on the island of Malekula, and save lives.

I always enjoy talking to my colleague, Manon Dumas, who is the Deputy Head of the Canadian Embassy in Australia and also covers the Pacific Islands, including Vanuatu. Friendship between France and Canada is also being forged here, at the heart of Pacific issues.
