After fighting for inclusion on COP agendas in Dubai, Baku and Belém, climate-related trade measures are on the verge of having their big moment on the cover of COP30 climate talks.

Looks to be another fairly quiet day today until we get that draft text.

Brazil’s #COP30 presidency has been keen to provide space for discussions beyond the formal agenda (package one), defusing the risk of a prolonged agenda fight and paving the way for something akin to a cover decision.

EU ministers fail to agree climate targets EU countries' leaders make decisions based on unanimity, potentially allowing laggards to block ambition on climate targets

EU environment ministers failed to agree on emissions targets for 2035 & 2040, deferring the decision to leaders at a European Council meeting in October. The bloc will now head to the UNGA without new pledges.
