The heavy rain last week on Dartmoor meant this little waterfall was rather wonderful with the great spout at the top!

So true! I’m often asked what I’m looking for and the expectation is always a bird of some kind.

It’s almost guaranteed there’ll be a storm when we travel, but the upside of the wild, wet and windy weather last week was the rivers and streams were running full.

An image combining a photograph of my Dad in tank uniform superimposed on a weathered background along with a map of the D Day landings. Also included are his WW2 medals and insignia, his letter of commendation (what for he would never say), service book and a typed record of the approach to Belsen concentration camp. And of course a packet of Senior Service cigarettes, his constant companion.

This Remembrance Sunday I’m thinking particularly about my Dad, one of the first troops into Belsen, the mental scars of which never left him. Lest we forget.

The image is one of my successful RPS Fellowship panel, 21 images of family photos and memorabilia.

The twisted oaks of this precious ancient temperate rainforest are covered in lichens and mosses. It needs thoughtful and respectful visits and we are asked to keep to the margins. Sadly, many are more interested in grabbing the perfect selfie rather than ensuring they do no damage.

This is the one of the precious rare remains of our extraordinary ancient temperate rainforest. I’m hoping to get there again while we’re that way, ideally with better conditions for photography as it was rather bright last time. It is truly awesome and needs kindly visits.

Thank you! They’re oystercatchers that flew up as I approached them, I love watching them running in and out with the waves.

We were sharing some thoughts about Harris here recently and I realised I’d not posted my favourite from one of my first visits - Rain Clearing Luskentyre.

It’s fabulous under any conditions isn’t it? One of my real old favourites is with fog. I’ve never been in the warmer months but seeing rental costs now we’re going to South Uist next year for the machair in flower.

It was your recent shots made me dip into my last visit pics - it’s very popular now but that’s because it is so very beautiful.

Much sympathy Sophie - our daughter’s flat was badly flooded two nights back when her upstairs neighbour left a bathroom tap running while he went for a 3 hour walk at night! Just does so much damage doesn’t it?

I’m very pleased that we’re going to take a week of RandR in Devon next month - this one from our last trip SW is of St Michael de Rupe on the edge of Dartmoor. Look closely and you’ll see a ewe, plaintively calling for her lambs. She found them in the other side of the church

Toby’s mate was dark, there’s a fabulous big print of the pair of them hanging in a cottage on the Seilebost side, which was where we first came aware of them. The mate died a few years back now, we first saw Toby in the flesh back in 2022 and he alone then. So glad he’s still there!

Oh is he still ok! We stayed with Toby a couple of years ago (ok, his humans) and he was pretty arthritic then. He’d come with the chickens and duck to say hi every morning. Makes a lovely picture doesn’t he!?

It’s going to be a while before we can get back to any falls as Mr B’s new knee shapes up, so here’s the splendid Cauldron Falls from a while back for #WaterfallWednesday this week

A friend has just reminded me of Beer, in Devon, which we visited off season when it was rather lovely in a melancholic way. The English seaside has a particular charm off season!
