It’s totally a sensor issue.

The trends are real.

And there’s a lot more insight to be gained from a sensor-based analysis. Salinity is a computed property.

My most cited paper (735 and counting - it's a daily citation notification at this point) is this one: doi.org/10.5670/ocea.... Written as part of a class project, I made the major figures. Got an A+. Inspiration for future classes that I will teach.

8 km error went from 9500 positions to 900. For my dataset the mean error was 127 km...

So saying 99% are still 4 km would be shocking to me, but maybe you are lucky and on a different species and in a different local you get a lot more positions.
