(2/2) (2) More empathy and guidance when a students crosses a boundary. In particular, showing them the problems with content when the LLM writes- or rewrites- text. So at least I'm coaching and not policing. And I'm less frustrated (so far, anyway!).

I'm happy to share! (1) I integrated use of GenAI into four assignments in different ways: finding articles, responding to specific prompts, rewriting text, and feedback on text. Students upload their chat convos and evaluate the machine's work as part of the assignment. (1/2)

Taking a Mosaic Approach to GenAI in the Classroom Published in Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning (Vol. 58, No. 1, 2026)

A few months ago, I edited this article about approaching GenAI in the classroom in productive ways. I made a few changes @ochristo.bsky.social suggested in my spring online course, and it's making a huge difference. If you're policing or frustrated, read it!

In the age of captcha, I can't help but wonder if the folks who decided "I am human" was the best text knew they'd be triggering an earworm for the Smiths. Every single time. I need to be loved...just like everyone else does.

In the new issue of Change Higher, @akezar.bsky.social breaks it down and posits campus leaders must have hope, instead of pessimism and cynicism. Read her provocation and much more from our insightful authors: shorturl.at/V7ylV

I was invited to be a guest on The Adjunct Files- a podcast about VITAL faculty. I really enjoyed our conversation, but my audio quality is terrible (a lesson in trying to record from remote locations!). www.buzzsprout.com/2448935/epis...

I am thrilled to see this research published in The Review of Higher Education. It shows that a loose cohort LC- which is flexible for FY students' different major pathways, work & home responsibilities, & living situations- supports higher credit attainment & GPA. muse.jhu.edu/article/978297

When low-income students participate in a loose cohort learning community together, they support each other's academic achievement and success.

As pre-tenure faculty, the eradication of federal funds for research is stressful. So is supporting my international students, and seeing politicians use of rhetoric of terror daily. Academic leaders need to address wellbeing among faculty, students, and staff- beyond grant expectations for tenure.

I was recently selected for University of Alabama's EmergingΒ LeadersΒ Program, which focuses on developing knowledge and skills related to academic administration. It's so cool that this will also benefit my scholarship on faculty. And I'm already thinking about starting the next #assdeans account.

Unionizing faculty is a powerful tool for gaining protections for academic freedom for all faculty and for supporting VITAL contingent faculty to earn a livable wage, better job security, and access to benefits. The Delphi Project at @uscpullias.bsky.social has research about the power of unions.

Alabama has the most HBCUs of any state in the nation, which is a point of pride for many here- even though it's due to the lasting legacy of slavery and the long struggle for educational equality here. #Juneteenth
