I mean having it recalculate the normals on import and thus lose custom normals. I usually found it worth the tradeoff to do that, but it sucks losing the custom.

Not super clear to me from the comment or PR, but would we at least get a working baseline without having to fully discard normals on import? That would still be an improvement.

I don't know if I could put SM64 as a whole on my list, but the Dire Dire Docks theme smashes almost everything else. I get chills every time I hear it arranged live.

That checks out. My last trip back from Reno was at 12AM after a full con day, with two connections, getting home at like 4PM the next day.

Yeah I think there's a reason for the dreaded reputation of "leg day". I know I do. But at least the soreness should stop appearing after a few weeks.

And that's it. Updated design should be stronger and also solve a few minor annoyances (the ends are beveled now). Other wing is also broken but not as bad, so I'll deal with that later.

Ready to button up. I also broke part of the truss webbing in the process and had to fix that too...

Looking back at these, I'm realizing the break happened right where the carbon fiber ends. Makes sense, but I can't extend the rod. Maybe embedding another splinted piece of carbon fiber would help here, or maybe it just moves the problem.

Checked out a new (to me) section of the bike trail today and I have no idea what kind of Blair Witch shit I stumbled into.

Just the jaw. I might need to extend the frame or a strap over the head to make the jaw fully functional, but the rest of the head feels sturdy enough like a normal foam base would.

Actually printing gyroid TPU sucked because the infill is sliced assuming a supporting shell is there and it will try to start from thin air. Fortunately I was printing on an H2D so I could use PLA supports and the TPU separates cleanly.

18.09.2025 03:33 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I feel like gyroid should glue better because the glue can wrap around all the fissures. Adhesion is still tricky here because it's TPU and stuff doesn't like to stick to it. The parts are bonded with Barge which is doing okay but not as strong as foam. Hot glue barely sticks.

The gyroid model feels stiffer overall while also feeling less structurally sound, and maybe a little heavier. Though this base might be heavier with the jaw included. This feels like a more pliable EVA foam which is what I'm used to working with.

New material, new print for the Nargacuga head base. The lightweight TPU has good give and prints really well. Decided to try a moving jaw so there's a PETG jaw frame embedded in a channel inside.
