Of the people I know here who are agreeing with me, most of them have PhDs.

No one is derriding them, it's a big achievement that takes a fuck ton of effort.

And I had it about as easy as anyone could.

But I don't think I've let go the complaints about restrictions elsewhere when Tāmaki was in lockdown for months.

I think there is a lot of this. I mean, academically I know that it was awful, but it's hard to comprehend.

Where as that last Auckland lockdown was hard and I know it affected me.

Nothing like the overseas trauma, but I didn't experience that, so even though I know, sometimes it doesn't feel.

Friend of mind was a DocPhil because for whatever historical reason Oxford absolutely does not do PhD.

Ons thing that's really bugging me about the "PhD level intelligence" is that a PhD isn't a measure of intelligence, it's a measure of commitment to study and specialisation in a narrow field (and opportunity to do so).

"PhD level intelligence" isn't really a meaningful phrase

There are so many good options, but for some reason this is the one that immediately jumped into my head

Trying to build everything in excel is a total footgun, but I think a lot of programmers would benefit from understanding what you can build to provide an escape hatch for certain use cases.

Like it's never a "I can build anything" machine, and it need to have a constrained space, but the ability for people who can think in a structured way but aren't programmers to do a basic integration between two systems is powrful.

I'm strongly of the opinion that low code stuff has its place, but the important thing is understanding that place.

The software around it needs to be providing the safety so the no code is empowering people to manage a constrained problem rather than a foot gun.

Like it's good to explore the tech and all, and know what's out there, but so often it's a distraction.

I find the innovation tokens metaphor useful for getting people focusing on where they spend their effort.
