Looks very promising ! A new open source langage « Loreline » for interactive fiction, designed to be as closed as possible from natural language ⭐

💯when content goes infinite, trust in prescriptors becomes fundamental. I believe this is the way forward for lots of media

Today mark the launch of Gamevestor, a new crowd equity platform for game development.
This is a project that is particularly close to my heart and I'm proud to join as an investor and board director.

I initially was approached for financial consulting, and became advisor because I believe in the core team and the mecanisms. Arthur & Ivan, and many of their board advisors, come from game production and have a very indie-respectful angle. Obv we'll see if there's a market but it's worth trying 🤞

I love it ! It's very system heavy and there are lots of QoL elements that are really appreciated. It's also quite difficult. I play in Lunatic, which is interesting because it trivializes grinding, but caps your level for bosses which makes each boss a puzzle.

✅ Heterogeneity of premium market (indies vs AA/AAA) with segments behaving very differently
✅ New IP creation vs IP reuse dynamics, because IP lose appeal over time, wide geographies and generations.

It's still a huge corpus of work and data, a benchmark for plenty of investors and a must-read.

Although he somewhat admits the complexity of the market and the shortcomings of his report, I believe by focusing on macroeconomics he misses several important changes :

✅ Disruption in financing and distribution, eg new actors and breakdown of publishing role

Maybe expectations were too high, but I found his market report slightly disappointing. There's a lot of fluff on geographies and that could have been easily summarized in one trend that's been brewing for years in every industry : Asia is becoming the biggest production & consumer market.

✅Rise of ads business models. Personally I don't buy into this one, it's a recurring prediction that doesn't meaningfully materialize outside of mobile.
✅ Rise of D2C (direct to consumer) spending, bypassing monopolistic store fees. AT EFFING LAST.

✅ Games are losing war of attention agains short vids, iCasinos, pornography, AI apps and betting. Mostly men (DUH). Each of those markets is increasing fast. This is one big depressing conflation I don't agree with, but until AI takes our job, free attention has plateau-ed a few years ago.

✅ Consistent with DICE feedbacks : multi-million dollars funding only attainable for studios with track record, proven genres and IPs at the same time.
✅ Design for low-tech and smartphones (if only for RAMpocalypse)

✅ Hiring returns but mass transfer of jobs to lower cost markets
✅ Rise of outsourcing for cost & flexibility reasons
✅ New PC/Console games get only 4 to 7% of total playtime

Also making smaller cheaper games increases the discoverability problem.

✅56 of the top 100 grossing games use AI-generated Ad. Though it'd be more.
✅Good news : continuous growth of alternative payment systems (38% of revenues for top 100 titles). Meaning Apple/Google monopoly is slowly weakening.

Interesting Appmagic 2026 mobile market report
✅1.4M new releases in 2025 (apps & games). With "only 20k releases a year, PC indie devs don't know their luck 😅
✅Apps are now earning more than Games. Makes me wonder how long Voodoo will keep games in their portfolio.

My thoughts is summarized on one of my slides for an old talk. I've only been in startup & game studio environments for less than 10 years, but I've already seen my fair share of CEOs & creative directors who aren't capable of dealing with the most basic social interactions.

YES ! That's when I started, and then crawled upstream to complete a Legends and Arabian nights. I have a fond memory of the dark, with bad boy Zuko and the excruciating Maze of Ith. I believe they then changed the tints of framing and the Dark had this "softness" that I still love 30 years after 🥰
