Chart showing in many countries, people see their fellow citizens as morally good.

We asked people around the world to rate the morality and ethics of others in their country.

The U.S. is the only place we surveyed where more adults describe the morality and ethics of others living in the country as bad than good. See our full morality report here: www.pewresearch.org/...

The Biggest Myth About Trump’s Base (And Why Many Believe It) The MAGA faithful aren’t deserting their leader.

Operation Midnight Hammer. Venezuela. Now Epic Fury. Again and again, stories claim that MAGA is mad with Trump for betraying America First principles. Again and again, polls show that nope, they're not. I wrote about this myth and why it won't die here (gift link):

If Colton Parakyo doesn’t completely shut down Boston’s top line in 2019, the Blues don’t win the Stanley Cup.

A very good Blue for a long time, and I still rock the 55 at Enterprise Center to this day.

Third time in four years they’ll finish with 20+ wins and 10+ SEC wins, something thats only happened three and two other times respectively since joining the league.

All after looking like it was about to go up in flames after Braggin Rights. Give Dennis Gates his props.

It would be cool to have a legislature that acted to defend its own constitutional prerogatives and, maybe as a treat, the interests of the people it represents too.

In the past, sometimes presidents have said it’s just a military operation or limited airstrikes to skirt Congress. Trump has unilaterally launched major combat operations, declaring war with the goal of regime change. A major violation of the U.S. Constitution, also illegal under international law

Americans Are Leaving the U.S. in Record Numbers More citizens are replanting overseas, drawn by a quality of life made easily affordable by the U.S.’s enviable salaries.

This is such a well done piece that reports out, with hard data and interviews, something profound about what's gone wrong in this country.

Trump, seeking executive power over elections, is urged to declare emergency Activists who say they are in coordination with the White House are circulating a draft executive order that would unlock extraordinary presidential power over voting.

Hey I’ve never read a history book before, should I be concerned that someone who already attempted a coup is trying to seize executive control of elections

This season doesn’t turn around like it has without the growth and development of Barrett and Trent Pierce (and now Burns seems to be growing up as well). A testament to Dennis Gates’s coaching in a year when the portal class was almost a complete 0-fer

T.O. Barrett last night: 28 points on 12/17 shooting. He and Mark Mitchell basically won the game by themselves.

The Olympics, Finale: Team USA's Best Winter Games Ever Team USA capped off its best Winter Olympics ever with DOUBLE GOLD IN HOCKEY. It was such a joy to watch these Winter Olympics with you.

"The flag that flies when an American athlete wins a gold medal isn’t Donald Trump’s flag. It’s ours. The anthem that plays isn’t Donald Trump’s song. It’s ours. If we refuse to celebrate what’s great about our country because of the people trying to ruin it, they’ve already succeeded."

Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects.
Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.

A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right.

Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.

This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

Anyway, last 8 minutes aside, that’s still a massive win. Go at least 2-3 the rest of the way and that’s probably enough to punch your ticket to the dance.
