AB 697 sailed through the legislature despite our concerns about widening SR 37 without addressing sea level rise and now sits on Gov Newsom's desk.

Next generation, same story... highways create traffic and widening makes traffic worse. Incredible investigative reporting by Ariane Lange @sacbee.com on generations of harm to Sac families and neighborhoods by Hwy 50, made worse by the current widening.

Good question. I believe MTC and Caltrans may have to apply for another state or federal competitive grant for that funding, so they should release an updated funding plan
06.09.2025 17:31 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0There are still a few outstanding environmental impacts under review, and it's not fully funded yet as far as I know (bc it requires such an insane sum of $$ to build).
Not a done deal yet.

Worth noting that SR 37 is the commute route for about 20k people daily. In a region of 7M is that the best use of $500m to save a few mins for a few years before congestion returns? While transit systems that carry many more may cut service...
06.09.2025 06:03 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Will the CA Transportation Commission award $600M for highway expansion tomorrow when our communities and climate deserve real solutions? Stay tuned...

More fearlessness today from @jeanieww.bsky.social in @sfchronicle.com, writing about the well debunked myth that adding new highway lanes in the hope of reducing traffic only encourages more drivers to use the roadโฆ resulting in higher levels of congestion. Props to my colleague @jeanieww.bsky.social for questioning why California wants to โdump half a billion dollars in the oceanโ in todayโs @sacbee.com: www.sacbee.com/news/local/t...
Was the report "too woke?" Or is that just the reason Trump uses when the government deletes its own reports with inconvenient truths?

#SB607 makes it harder for Californians to challenge polluting projects in their communities. It limits environmental review and silences public input.
Join us in calling on Senators Mike McGuire and Anna Caballero to vote NO on SB 607.

LA has so many freeways and none of them move people efficiently. How would this change with congestion pricing and transit priority? Fewer lanes?
16.05.2025 23:25 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yep, it's exhausting. I've heard every justification for why 'this project' is special and unique - for the hundreds of widening projects still marching forward.
Real climate leaders don't widen highways.
