The word “resilience” made me groan out loud. I can’t be the only late-dx autistic woman traumatized by constant, unmeetable demands for “resilience.” Just gotta toughen up, ladies! Stop being so hysterical & demanding! 2/3

There’s a part in here where she suggests reclassifying “late”-dx kids (a heavily female group) separately as “hypersensitive” instead of autistic. This would be treated as an issue of anxiety & “resilience.” 1/3

Well, it happened. A classmate suggested using AI for a group project. I said no, & he didn’t press the issue, so 👍🏻 But it made me realize, I need to be ready if a classmate DOES insist on using AI in the future…Sigh.

Autism researchers claim authority solely because they are “autism researchers.” This woman is ignoring decades of research & evidence based on vibes, yet her opinion is reported because she is an “expert.”

I started grad school late, in middle age, & I feel that I have a strong competitive advantage over my younger classmates because I went to college before AI. A lot of them can’t research or write without these tools. And these are PhD students, the professors of tomorrow! It’s scary.

I will never use AI. In a few years, when this current AI bubble has popped & I go on the job market, I’ll be competing with kids who had the computer do their work for them, & it will be obvious.

To be clear on what's happening here (no less gross), they aren't "generating miniature LLMs based on academic work"; they are just giving a "persona prompt" (something like "you are X person; give critique/feedback as that person based on these qualities of that person and their writing").

I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing ‘reviewed’ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.

When modern researchers or orgs talk about “preventing” autism, they don’t mean “curing” living #autistic people. That is impossible; there is no non-autistic version of us hiding underneath!

“Preventing autism” means “eliminating autism from the gene pool” by screening out autistic pregnancies.

Contrary to popular discourse, the “savant” autism is the same thing as the “severe” autism RFK is afraid of. Just recombinations & expressions of the same core #autistic traits. You cannot “prevent” only the “bad” kind of autism, or only the painful, inconvenient traits, without wiping us all out.

This isn’t a statement of superiority or supremacy. We are EXACTLY AS VALUABLE as the rest of humanity. We have strong & weak points. But our weak points are pathologized, & our strengths are treated as unrelated to our autism, when they’re really flip sides of the same neurological coin. #Autistic
